While at work last night I logged into my account and brought up the cdn nic vendor list to shop around.
Upon opening one of the webpages the browser crashed, desktop went blank and a million hard drive crash errors started popping up repeatedly, task manager couldn't be brought up and everything in the start menu was blank.
I was at work, on a work computer so I was seriously freaked out, I was able to access the internet so I downloaded some portable anti-malware apps (R-kill, hidden file restore, hitman-pro) onto a thumbdrive I always have with me (just mp3 music on it, it is verified clean).
Ran the software from the drive and got the computer running normal again.
The name of this infection is the "hard dr1v3 d1agnostic virus" (scrambled to evade Google searches)
The computer is a P4 system with win XP, srvc pack 3 and standard internet explorer with Kaspersky av protection. I have used this computer for almost a year and it is the first time this has happened.
I'm at home on one of my Win 7 computers trying all the sites in the list to find the attacker site and replicate the attack(I forgot the site name during the panic), so far everything is coming up clean so this maybe an exploit to XP ,IE and Kaspersky combo only.
Has anyone else had any experience with one of the list sites setting off your AV or infecting your computer?
