I use the Vivi Nova with an ego c-twist and a 2.4 head and 6mg liquid. I usually replace the heads once a week (i don't bother cleaning them). Sometimes, though, i get very hot painful hits on the back of my throat a day or so after replacing the head. Sometimes it takes less than a day. It always goes away when i change the head and when don't have this problem, i can go a week or more on a head just fine. So, i figure i'm getting some bad heads. I have ordered them from both Gotvapes and Aquavapor but i can't tell if the bad hits are happening from one particular purchase since i didn't bother to keep track of which heads i got from where. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a particular website that you could recommend that i could good quality Vivi Nova heads from? Please don't waste your time telling me about recoiling them. It sounds interesting but i just don't have that kind of time or inclination. I'm a "throw it away and replace it" kind of guy.

Unfortunately, this is the nature of the beast concerning clearomizers like the Vivi Nova. These are very simple juice delivery devices by design, and although easy to fill and easy to replace the coils, IMHO this design lends to either dry hits from inadequate wicking or flooding issues from the coils not being able to vaporize all the e-liquid.

I suggest advancing up to a cartotank for better flavor production and more consistancy than a clearomizer. Cartomizers have a greater surface area of the wick material (polyfill) and the polyfill being a better flavor carrier than silica string. You'll spend a little more time setting up a cartotank along with a slight learning curve, but the results are worth it.

Thanks. I really didn't want to go back to polyfill as i ended up "fiddling" too much for my tastes when i used those kinds of ecigs, but i'll look into it. Some of the things you said made me think. The burning i feel is reminiscent of the time i put pure VG in my vivi nova because the VG was too thick and it didn't wick properly. However, the fact that this happens even after i turn the vivi nova upside down a few times and the fact that it goes away when i replace the head tells me it's probably not strictly a wicking problem. UNLESS some heads just don't wick as well as others. This is what i'm wondering about. Are there some websites that just sell low quality heads that cause this sort of problem? If it is a wicking problem, why do i have this issue with some heads and not with others?

I used Vivi Novas for a few months and really liked them. Great performance for a clearo and the heads can be dry burned dozens of times to prolong their use. I used to put my 'gunky' juices in these instead of cartos because you can't dry burn cartos. These days I use rebuildables.

Be careful when you put the silicone sleeve on the head. Don't push it on all the way, let the top cap push it home when you screw it on. And don't screw the top cap on too tight, snug is all you need. Same with the tube to the bottom part. If that sleeve goes down too far it pushes on the wick and can cause dry hits. The fit of the head is dependent on the size between the bottom and top of the clearo after you assemble it. If that's too long, you'll get flooding or leaking through the drip tip. Too short and you'll get dry hits.

I always bought my VN's and heads local from a good supplier that sells real Vision products. I trust Gotvapes to not sell a counterfeit Vision product, but I don't know Aquavapor. It's also possible you could also be getting some bad heads even from Vision.

Thanks for the advice. I never knew that about the silicon sleeve. I do tend to push it down as far as i can. I also usually screw the top cap on hard. Now i'll have to see if i notice the burning starting after i refill. Maybe after i refill, i'm putting the cap on harder than usual and that's when it happens? I'll have to pay attention to that. I wonder if i should cut notches in the silicon tip where they meet the wick so it doesn't push down on the wick? Perhaps i'll try that.

On another note, i usually take out the little paper sleeve from inside the head when i put it in. I don't remember why i do it, but i remember a few years ago hearing that it was a good idea. I just don't remember the reason. Could that be part of the problem?

Yes it can. I typically use a 50/50 or a 60PG/40VG mix myself.
Note: You will have to use the Smoktech coils with the ARO. The Kanger coils wont fit. But, they are available for a reasonable price there at the same site. Imo, the ARO is one of the most reliable and dependable tanks Ive used so far.

If you get one, please let me know how it works for you.

I tried that but I could never get it to work right and got flooding. I found it's really hard to make the notch the right size. The other thing is once I discovered the sensitivity to the placement of the sleeve all my issues went away.

Interesting, I never took anything out of the heads and am not aware of any paper inside them.

It's more of a fiberglass sleeve that encircles the coil to protect the coil from accidentally touching the metal. Or rather it lines that metal housing.

Another thing to consider, the silicone cap that that you're talking about notching, gets softened and slightly (very slightly) misshapen from constant use. It is easy to accidentally press down too hard over the head. It just needs to sit there. The action of screwing the top cap back on will seed it onto the head, where it needs to be.

I was a Vivi Nova die hard for over a year. ;)

BTW, Batitude. I noticed you live in Cincinnati. I grew up there and moved to NJ about 20 years go. I miss it i a lot. Do they still have great chili?

Absolutely!! Skyline, Gold Star, Dixie, Camp Washington, Chili Time. "Greek-style" chili. I have to have Skyline (my favorite) at least a couple of times a week. A 4-way and two cheese coneys and a Pepsi -- heaven.

I quit using CE4s & Vivi Novas for the same reason. No matter how I set them up, I would end up with a raw throat. I will say that they saved our butts when "Bogegate" hit, but when good cartos came back ... so did my carto tanks, and the clearos all went in the zombie box.

Even tho I use RDAs 99% of the time now, a good old carto tank is the easiest thing to toss in the cup holder when I hit the road.

Thanks Jim. I may give the Smoktech Aro a try. The price is right and i can see how a bottom-coil tank would be a more logical way to go. What mix can you use with these? I know with the VN, i'm asking for trouble if i have the VG any more than 25%. Can the ARO handle a 50/50 mix?

Yes it can. I typically use a 50/50 or a 60PG/40VG mix myself.

Got my Pyrex Aros from Hoosierecigs. Decent price, and they have the correct replacement heads. I am rebuilding now, so that's slightly less of an issue. Only thing I don't like about the Aros is the SS tip. They do get *WARM* in the summer, and I get an occasional off-taste (which I'm guessing is the SS.) LOVE that they're glass, so I don't fear that I'm going to crack anything. I use 50/50 pretty much all around. Since I started rebuilding and using cotton for the wick, I think it wicks better than the silica. Although, I do notice right at the end of the tank, I'll start getting some leaking/gurgling. Not quite sure what's causing that, but it's pretty minimal, so I'm not bothered.

I'm glad you like the ARO's. I don't like SS in my mouth either. What I do is cut the end off one of the rubber/latex cartomizer condoms and pull it down over the SS tip. Works great. :p

you forgot West Price Hill chili D: Really good stuff, but always packed =T Though I prefer empress chili or Dixie Chilli myself

    ----

But to contribute to the topic, I always have had issues with vivi tanks and never could get them to wick or fire right. Always too finiky.. I went with the Kanger Miniprotank after that and still one of my favorites, although the coils seem to have gone down hill as of late.

if you dont mind the size, Nautilus seems to have good reviews, and these Shenzhen Horizon Technology Co., Ltd. just got stocked at my local B&M. Also, since I know baditude is close by, Cincy Vapes has 2 cool tanks called the Trojan and Spartan from Horizon E-Cig, which work like a beast. I wont lie, I got one up at 15 watts and it chucks like crazy. problem is, I cant find either tank (trojan nor spartan) online XD

Oh, man. That makes me so hungry. They have the occasional place that offers "Cincinnati chili" around here but it's just not the same. Last time i visited, i came back with 20 cheese coneys in a cooler.
