Vivi Nova: Consistent Burning

Hi guys,

Bought a couple of Vivi Nova tanks the other day. They were working great for the first couple of days, then suddenly they both developed a very muted flavour. So I washed them out, topped up the juice, dry burned them and tried vaping again. First few goes were fine, then this disgusting burning flavour came through.

So I figured I must have dry burned them too long or something. So anyway bought a pack of replacement coils today, changed one out, took a couple hits and it was ok, and on the third hit, this almighty burnt vapour taste came through, I nearly coughed up a lung! Horrible!

What am I doing wrong? Surely a new cool on a 2 day old tank shouldn't be doing this?

It's on an MVP v2, was hitting it at 3.8v and 9w, not excessive at all.

Please help! I'm at my wits end with sub standard tanks and just stumped up €50 on a Nautilus and a 5 pack of coils to finally get back to problem free vaping!

I use vivi novas daily. Most of my coils I rebuild and they last me weeks. What type vivi nova do you have? Some have a pointy silver type topcap inside and those are very problematic.

I have two Vivi's. The type with the long silica wicks and top coils. One has better than four weeks on the original coil. One with only four days. May be a coil quality thing.

I do rinse the coils after every couple of tanks and dry burn them. Only a couple of short pulses.

Took about a week to figure out that these need to be topped off when down to about a third full. I also do not stand them up for any length time without giving them a wave like Harry Pottor doing multiple spells.

The only vivi's I use are made by vision and after using for over a year I'm sold.

Looks like yours are vision. I am using one that is a year and a half old that was bought for 12.99 US. I rebuild my coils using 32 kanthal and 3mm silica.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Not sure if those are the best photos, or if they've got pointy silver topcaps, but they've both got the long silica wicks, although I thought they were bottom dual coils, aren't they?

Honestly after watching the Rip Tippers video about making your own single micro coils for the Nautilus it's looks fairly straightforward, I'm really thinking about giving it a go.

I just don't want to have 7 tanks and use only the Nautilus. Even the Nautilus isn't the holy grail so far as I had thought it would be, although I think it's a juice issue, but the vapour is silky smooth which is nice.

In the us this is considered old equip these days. Everyone loves bottom coils lately. All I care about is what's cheap and can I make it work for me.

As I've said in previous posts, I'm totally sold on the Aspire Mini Novas. They're awesome, great flavour, no leaks, coils lasted me 3 weeks, perfect. But I'm working in Germany right now and no local vendors have replacement coils and I've never built my own, so I worked through protank3s, iClear30's, Vivi novas and now onto the nautilus. I really thought the vivis would be identical to the minis but bigger, but so far no luck :-/

Do you think the vivi novas I have are top coil?? That would explain the burning as I hold my MVP & vv/v3 at about a 45 degree angle when vaping as I'm assuming they're bottom coil like the mini novas

I've been using the Vision Vivi Nova since they were first released, rebuilding my own coils. One thing I have found is trimming the wicks short, about 1/4-1/2 inch long and fluffing them up helps keep the coil fed. The original ones had short wicks, but after some knuckleheads complained they couldn't keep them perfectly upright and vape, they started using long wicks. (I've found the same problem with the iClear30)

If you can see a multi strand wick in the tank, you have top coil model. From what I have read of these, it is an older type clearo. I do not care, mine seem to work, produce a decent vape and are quite inexpensive. I have seen them for well under ten bucks.

I have some coming in the mail, and have heard that cutting a ^ in the silicone top cap give the wicks more room to feed juice.

Vivis are definitely top coils. I never have any problems but I tend to use my ecig horizontal when vaping so I always tip it. When I started and saw the video above thought I would try rebuilding it didn't look that hard and once I mastered that I decided there wasn't much else I wouldn't try it has led me on. My latest is the kayfun which I think is a comparable vape.

So I've got top coil for sure! Thanks for clearing that up! So with top coil tanks you vape at a minimum 90 degree angle to keep the juice at the top of the tank right?
Bottom coils so much more convenient

When I build my coils I use a 5/4 wrap that works out to about 2.1 ohms and I am happy. I tried doing the v cutout in the silicone cap and had problems. All it did was cause a gurgle and I threw them all out. That was the last time I tried that.

Awesome, once I get on decent wifi at work I'll watch the vid. I gotta jump on this rebuild train. Will search the forums for where to get kanthal, cotton, blow torch (I guess it's needed) etc etc.

So glad I posted this thread, you guys are life savers and super quick to help. I even relapsed onto the stinkers for 3 days because I couldn't vape
