What I am trying to do it to recoil a Vivi Nova. I have wrapped about 4 coils. So far my first coil was 4 wraps at 1.7-1.9 ohms but the positive leg of the coil was glowing and not the rest (also was getting the burn rubber taste). So I took it apart made sure it was not touching side wall not touching between wraps and put it back together and still only the positive leg glowed (still had burned rubber taste). I then took it apart and followed a suggestion in one of the posts here and doubled up the legs to keep the legs from burning the rubber spacer ring at the base. Now my issue.... If i double both legs I can't get the coil to 2 ohms at least not without having like 12 wraps on it which will not fit. I tried doubling only the positive side and I get 1.1 ohms with 6 wraps.

I am using 32 awg kanthal 12.8ohm/ft. I am at a loss any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are the wraps in your coil touching each other? 1.7 ohms sounds a little low for 4 wraps. Have you tried 5 wraps? You can also try wrapping a little looser - makes for a longer coil and more overall resistance. I've made many coils and have yet to burn the insulator so I know it can be done.

Oh, also - what version VN are you using?

I have checked the coils multiple times. If they are touching it is after I have slid the wick and coil back into the head. My first thought was that it was touching the sides of the head. On all the coils I make without doubling the legs the positive leg and the first wrap glow when I fire which is when the burnt insulator smell occurs.
I have not had the time the past few days to mess with it again until today. I will see what happens and post again.
