By 45 degree angle, s§sZAN is saying to cut your rectangle from the mesh at 45 degrees, diagonally across the weave. In other words, turn your piece of mesh so the weave is running from the upper left to lower right and upper right to lower left and then cut your rectangle straight up and down. Your rectangle will then also have the weave running at the 45 degree angle from upper left to lower right and upper right to lower left. As he points out, you waste some mesh because you are not cutting your pieces along the lines of the original cuts of the mesh, but it makes the wick bend more easily (have not tried it but will 'cause it makes sense).

Ahhh, I gotcha.

I purchased my 400 mesh from the mesh company, they added an extra sheet of 325 for free, they are incredibly generous sellers. I prefer the 400. It would seem according to some threads in the Modders Forum 500 & 600 is best due to its capillary action, the finer it is the better it draws the juice up.
As far as making purchases for Kanthal from Sandvik (the manufacturer) best of luck, they will only supply huge quantities.
I bought a lot of K A1 32awg when I started experimenting with coils I should have bought taster packs of various sizes from vendors instead, that way I wouldn't have landed up with a whole lot of wire I never use.:2c:

How do you solve for the hot coil leg going down to the grommet? I made a SS wick , wrapped 5-6 wraps with 30g Kanthal and my first couple of tanks were great but the 3rd tank started tasting a bit burnt. I took the top silicone cap off to do a dry burn, but noticed one of the legs glowing bright red. The coils still glowed evenly though. I've recoiled a couple of times but haven't gotten that great flavor back. I even tried wrapping NR silver wire for the legs, but there isn't a whole lot of room in the Vivi Nova head for twisting the NR legs onto the coil without having one of the wires touch the side of the head. Any tips? I was loving the SS wick setup, so much cleaner tasting than cheesecloth.

Unfortunately, there isnt an easy (or simple) fix for that issue- and when I was working with the Vivi's, that's what made me give up on them as rebuildables. If you check out my blog (link in sig), I've got a few posts about twisting the legs (helps a little) and using SS mesh wicks (kind of a PITA)...and there are a few more tutorials here on ECF that might be helpful as well. Unfortunately, though, the problem you speak of is both common and hard to get past with thos particular tanks, because to truly eliminate the issue, the design of the tank would have to be changed (which has been done- some people have even created Genesis systems out of Vivi's, with a hot center post and all!).

I don't mean to necro but... Couldn't you just use non resistance wire for the leads on the vivi nova? I've seen some pics of people who use silver wire to make the negative and positive leads, then they twist that onto what makes the coil.

I'm waiting on my SS mesh to show up and I'm going to attempt to rebuild my mini nova. I get decent flavor out of the regular heads... but I'm really hoping there will be a world of difference because all of my juices just seem to be lacking something that hopefully SS mesh will help.

You won't notice a world of difference with ss mesh, only slight

Yea its an old thread, but you bumped it back to the top. Theres a tutorial on here about the vivi nova rebuild using nr wire, but if you don't have any try twisting the wires together to decrease the resistance. I use a straight hollow wick that will fit in the tank and twist 33 awg kanthal 3 times over to prevent the hot legs from burning the rubber grommet. Three wraps give me 1.8 ohms and its about 3/4 of an inch if you want to premeasure to make it easier.
