Pls. bear w/ me, as I'm a bit of a noob about equipment.

In a nutshell: last night, both of my Vivi Nova V3 tank systems stopped working. Then they started again, suddenly. Weird, huh? Can it happen again?

Here are the facts (simplified):

1) I use two of them - diffo flavors in each. We'll call them V1 and V2. And just in case it's relevant, I have batteries 1 and 2 connected to them, and we'll call them B1 and B2. (More details below.)

2) All of a sudden, V1 stops working. What do I mean by "stops working?" I mean that there was no vapor. When I held the PV up to my ear, I couldn't hear that distinctive crackling sound that one hears which indicates that the e-juice is being heated. At first I thought it might be a battery issue, even though B1 was recently charged. So I swapped batteries. V1 continued to not work, and V2 worked fine. I also tried using a tissue paper to clean the connections on the top of the batteries and the bottom of V1, just to make sure they were good. No help. And yes, the batteries were screwed on tightly.

3) Next, I pour the e-liquid out from V1 into a spare bottle. I'm boiling some water to clean it. On a hunch, I drip a little VG into it, just to see what happens. Presto! It starts working again. Then I pour the e-liquid back in. No problems. V1 has worked fine, ever since (and no, I never cleaned it.)

4) Just a short time later, V2 stops working. Same symptoms as in #1. I go through the procedure in #2, but that doesn't help. So I immerse V2 in very hot water, shake it out, and get prepared to tear it apart. But first, I decided to drip some VG into it. All of a sudden, it starts working again too. V2 has also continued to work ever since.

5) I've had these two Vivis for almost a month now. This is the first time that I've experienced a prob.

So-o, I'm  ... is this going to start happening all the time? What if I'm out of the house and I don't have the opportunity to fiddle? Anyone have any ideas?

Here's some "fine print" for those of you who are interested:

a) B1 and B2 are both vision (manual) VVs. I always keep them jacked up to the max, which I believe is 4.8v. B1 is a 1300, B2 an 800.

b) V1 has a mix of JC 2.4% (24mg/ml) TN cured, 2.4% espresso and VG in it. I'm not sure of the proportions, I generally "fiddle" if I'm at home, by adding a little of this or that. Last night I varied this slightly by adding some Nature's Flavors vanilla.

c) V2 has a mix of JC 2.4% tundra and VG in it, plus some Nature's Flavors menthol flavoring. Again, I have no idea what the proportions are.

d) I'm always careful not to let liquid get into that little hole at the top of the tank ("head" ?). I will gently shake the Vivis from time to time when I add new liquid, but the top is always on.

e) Both V1 and V2 have relatively fresh wicks - changed on Tues I think.

vivi novas have the tendency to push the inner pin of a 510 connector. If you screw it on hard it just makes it worse.. get something strong but skinny and try to wiggle the middle connector back up a bit on your battery.

Thanks! That does explain the behavior of the Vivis. (Although it doesn't explain why swapping the batteries didn't fix the prob on the failing VV, and cause it to occur on the working VV. Visual inspection of the batteries also doesn't reveal any prob.s, but my eyes may not be accurate enough.)

That said, I'll be sure to tighten the batteries as little as possible in order to achieve a connection.

Maybe adding a bit of foil would help ensure that I have a good connection, if this occurs again?

It's all caused by sunspots. Solar flare activity. It messes with satellites and PVs. ;)
No foil!!! It'll be sure to find a way to cause a short!
Post wiggles is the solution. Gently, use an unbent paper clip to wiggle both the battery and the carto's posts.

Ach, sunspots. I should've thought of that!! *slaps forehead.*

I tried a bent paper clip and it doesn't seem to do anything. But now that I know that contact is the prob, I can probably find something. It also hadn't occured to me that there was any "play" at all with the contact point on the bottom of the tank.

Screwing it in with a minimum of tightness doesn't seem to work - I'm getting a little leakage from the bottom. (That's why I stopped using a Kanger PT II ... :censored: thing leaked like crazy.

And I thought that I'd found the perfect solution *sigh* (I like to mess w/ juice, but not w/ hardware. I consider myself to be an upstanding ohms-law-abiding citizen

Try tightening the drip tip. This should push the center post down.

Okay, I finally figured out the problem. Your advice lead me to it! The trick is that the wick assembly screws on. If it's not all the way in, then you won't get (heating) power.

How does it come off? The answer is that if you accidently get just a little tiny bit of sticky e-juice on the top of the wick assembly, it will adhere just slightly to the "head" (or whatever you call it, the thing you unscrew at the top to put more juice in).

It's the very act of unscrewing the top part which can loosen the wick assembly (if the two are stuck together).

The solution is to just take a tweezers and make sure that it's tight again. Your method of pushing it down will help, but only in the short term. I didn't finally put it all together until I decided to change the wick to see if that helped.
