It sat for over five minutes with juice. The vapor production is outstanding. I'm vaping the same juice I had before but not getting flavor. Just a burning flavor and it's very....spicy???

The latest version of the genuine Vision brand Vivi Nova is 2.5. FastTech and some other p[laces sell a knockoff Version 5.
Does your head have a pin on it?
I always wash my clearos before using. Sounds like the coil isn't getting enuff juice. Try taking it apart and GENTLY unravel the long wicks. What PV/ battery/ voltage are you using and what ohms is the head (wick+coil)?

I don't know the specifics unfortunately. It's an original. I had the box. I'm using a standard ego battery

Vivi's have a tendancy to have a lot of manufacturer gunk on them. So I generally take it all apart and wash it with some hot water, you can soak them in vodka ect but I don't see it necessary to do so. I just use pretty hot water and do a quick dry burn (burn without liquid in it and burn it so that you can see the coils down the center glow red) I do this for a minute or so and then fill it up. Vivi's also take a tank or two to completely break in and get the full flavor out of. I don't have experience with the v5's per-say but I do have a ton of vivi experience
It's really rough. I'll try it out. I'm hoping it gets better.

There have been knockoff Vivi Novas V5 in Vision boxes. If it's a V5 then it's a knockoff. Won't talk numbers but the Shop made a healthy profit. Look at the pic above and see what head you have- pin or no pin. So your battery is firing prolly at 3.7 volts. Also try tilting the Vivi so the wicks stay saturated. Been using Vision Vivi Nova ever since they were released without problem.
As for the taste sometimes machine oil ends up in the clearo. Chinese manufacturers said to was to stop them from rusting- I don't buy it. Before using I ALWAYS wash my clearos in PGA, vodka or hot water. Be very careful NOT to lose any O- rings. There's 3 of them.
I traded out for the 1.8 ohm atomizer and it seems better. Does this make sense. Sorry. I'm very new very confused.

Yes it does. The Vivi is a top coil clearo and therefore cuz the coil is close to the lips gives a warm vape. Lower ohms= stronger harsher vape. Realize also many of these heads/ attys can be out by as much as 10- 20% minus or plus from the advertised ohms. 2.0- 2.4 ohms is prolly what you need. The heads (wick+ coil) comes in: 1.8, 2.4 and 2.8 ohms. 2.8 ohms is way too high for your eGo.
