I've been using a Volt manual standard battery and Volt cartomizers for about a week, and I think I might have a cartomizer with a problem. Actually, let me take a moment to say that I've really been enjoying my Volt gear on the whole; it's really been quite excellent.

Now, back to my (potential) problem. I have a cartomizer that doesn't screw all the way on to the battery. It feels and looks like it's coming up a turn or two short; there is a noticeable gap between the carto and the side of the battery. This wouldn't bother me except this same carto seems to be producing a fairly inconsistent draw. Sometimes it will be nice and easy and then mid-draw it will tighten up briefly and sort of bounce back and forth. Then there are other times when it seems like I'll be able to have several vapes in a row with a nice easy draw.

Is it common to have the occasional carto that doesn't snug up to the battery? What might be causing it to come up short? Is that related to what I've been experiencing with the inconsistent draw or is it just coincidence? Is this something to just be chalked up to occasional inconsistency of mass-produced products?

Hi Lucid- I've never had a carto like that. If your other cartos work and that one doesn't then it sounds like its an oddball. Have you tried a different carto since you tried that one, or tried one of the old ones again to check if they still thread ok? If the old ones still screw on then its an oddball carto.

It's rare but duds are going to happen occasionally on anybodys cartos. I've only had two or three in over a year. They're a consumable and I just tossed them and moved on. Most vendors disclaim any warranty on cartos. You pay your own shipping cost with SI so it'd cost you more in mailing to send it in for replacement and it would cost them more to send you one back than they're worth. I've heard of people getting packs from various places with three or four duds in it but without knowing all the circumstances they're could be other problems causing it. CCV used to warranty all of theirs but people kept taking advantage with false claims and ruined it for everybody.

Rather than mailing a new one which would cost more than the carto is worth, they might give a credit (volt points) to compensate for the defective item.

If it were me, that is what I'd ask for.

Another thing to look at is the center post in that specific cartridge. It may be "sticking up" too far. If that is the case you can try pushing it back in with a little pressure from a blunt object. I'm cheap, so I tinker with things that don't work right. Overall a carto is inexpensive enough to just toss if it doesn't work right though.

Thanks for the replies everybody. The other cartos I have seem to screw onto the battery snugly, and I haven't noticed any draw issues with them. I also have a V2cigs battery, and that carto screws onto there and draws normally. (Not sure if that's helpful or just makes it more confusing, ha.) At one point last night I did try to push the post up into the carto, but I'm not sure if it actually moved or not, and it didn't start working better. (It's unclear from looking at it whether or not it is further down that other ones.)

Thanks for the suggestion Harplayr. I'll probably ask them about getting credit as compensation, because I need to call them anyway. I ordered some more cartos and the X2 battery, and my shipment came today but the battery is in auto rather than a manual...A little bit frustrating, because now it'll likely be another week before I get what I ordered a few days ago.

It's nice to hear that this isn't a particularly common problem; I was more concerned about it being a regularly occurring thing than I was about the problem itself right now.

UPDATE: I contacted SI customer service, and all the good things I've been hearing about them have now been experienced first hand. They're sending me the correct battery today and credited me with 10 Volt Points for the bum carto so with those alone (i.e. not including my existing Volt Points) I can get a couple bucks off a future order.

Thanks so much for all the tips and suggestions as well as peace of mind that this shouldn't be a problem that occurs frequently at all.

That's what I like about SI.
Everybody can make a mistake or have a faulty carto, but the real measure of a company is how they take care of problems.
I'm glad they're taking care of you.

Another job well done by your treasury men in action.

I think I've had 2 bad cartos in about a year. Shouldn't be a regular occurrence by any means.

That is very good to know. As much as I was hoping to get some sort of resolution to this problem, I was equally interested in learning if 1/5 (or anything near that) was an expected rate of failure. So I'm very pleased to hear it is far, far from that.
