A battery with a nominal voltage of 3.7 volts needs a charger that is rated at 4.2 volts. The 3.7v cell comes off charge at 4.2 volts and quickly falls to 3.7 in use.
If you had a rechargeable 6 volt cell and charged it at 4.2 volts, it would be undercharged, it could not put out full voltage, and it will die faster.
