Hello once again folks and welcome back for the 2nd review of the new Argus series of devices, if you missed the first review of the Argus MT Kit I'll leave a link for you here. https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threads/voopoo-argus-mt-kit-reviewed-by-bigbob2322.975717/. Today's review will cover the Argus XT Kit that uses a replaceable 21700 or 18650 battery, there is a supplied 18650 adapter shipped with it pre-installed in the device. Like the Argus MT the XT is a IP68 rated device making it shockproof, dustproof and waterproof. I was sent a sample version for review so the final retail version might have some small changes to it. There's a lot to cover so lets get started with my review of the Argus XT Kit.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
After opening the Argus MT I reviewed the other day I was hoping for the same wow feeling opening the Argus XT and not quite as brilliant as the White MT version is I like it. Voopoo always does a great job with packaging on the Argus Kits and this one is no exception, again a metal tin is used to hold the Argus XT and Matte tank, coils, charging cable, spare O-rings, fill port gasket, 18650 battery adapter and user manual. As I said in my opening sentence I was sent a sample version of the Argus XT Kit so the final retail version may be slightly different.
A big thumbs up to Voopoo for the metal tin because it is so useful for storing vape related material such as wicking material, coils, tools or whatever you can fit inside. The supplied 18650 battery adapter is pre-installed in the device so you'll need to remove it if using a 21700 battery.
I won't be covering the new Matte Tank in this review as I covered it in the Argus MT Kit review earlier, check out the review link I posted in the beginning of this review. I will tell you this about the new Matte Tank ( very good flavor with plenty of airflow ).
I was sent the Silver Grey sample version that has leather wrapped on the sides and spine of the device, the leather has a very soft cushy feel to it but it's done in 2 different colors of Grey and a light Green with the body being Silver metal.
I don't quite know how I feel about the 2 choices of the leather colors but I will say it has been growing on me the more I use it. I really like the look of the embossed Argus XT and mountain top symbol between the double stitching that separates the 2 colors on the spine of the device.
One side of the device has branding of Gene TT printed at the bottom portion of the devices body which is done lightly, but the other side of the Argus XT has no branding at all. Although the inner metal body has some nice sparkle to it it's a bit of a fingerprint magnet. On the outer body the metal is a shiny but matt finish that's not prone to fingerprints.
I don't know how you feel about lanyard rings on a Mod but I don't like them, I personally know of no one that uses one or likes them but as the Argus MT has one so does the Argus XT but thankfully it's in a location and done with a minimal appearance that I hardly even notice it when vaping so I can't really knock it to bad. The top plate continues the shape of the Argus XT, I actually like the shape and you'll be happy to know that a 28mm atomizer will fit.
The Argus XT uses the familiar bottom trap door for the battery that so may manufacturers use, being a IP68 rated device it has to withstand drops and falls without opening and although I haven't actually dropped the Mod I have slammed it down hard several times on a hard surface without it opening. There is a arrow pointing in the direction to open it using the inner portion of it.
There is only one polarity marking on the Argus XT with it being on the battery trap door contact with a - minus symbol, no positive + symbol is inside the device.
Like the Argus MT the Argus XT uses a lock switch that allow the device to be locked without having to do the 5 presses of the Power/Fire button shutting the device off when carrying in a pocket for safe travel.
Unlike the Argus MT that has a 2 position lock switch (ON/OFF) the Argus XT uses a 3 position lock switch that when in the 3rd position all the way to the right it only locks the adjustment buttons but still allows you to vape.
When facing the switch the far left position locks the entire device from operating, a locked padlock symbol, single bar line, and a circle with a diagonal line are printed on the device below the locking switch. In the center position you can vape but the adjustment buttons are unlocked. When the adjustment buttons are locked a red circle with a diagonal line appears at the bottom right of the wattage on the display screen. The screen layout is below.
SCREEN LAYOUT - TOP TO BOTTOM / LEFT TO RIGHT
* Wattage/Temperature Selected
* Power Mode Selected
* Battery Percentage % / Battery bar
* Puff Counter
* Ohms
* Volts
* Seconds Of Last Vape
The front face of the device has a pretty clean look with almost all the buttons, charge port drop down door, Power/Fire button and lock switch having a almost flush to the Mod feeling to them with some button rattle coming from the rocker bar adjustment button and drop down charge port door, the lock switch a Power/Fire button is solid on the sample version.
The rocker bar adjustment button is very responsive and easy to operate, scrolling is very fast as well. The charge port drop down door locks into place with a click securing it. Having 4 power modes including 3 in TC mode for NI,TI, and SS is a big plus and there are 3 memory settings when using TC mode.
There is a Turbo mode that increases power at the beginning of the vape for a added kick which works well. The Smart mode gives a recommended wattage and wont allow you to go past the maximum recommended wattage for the coil your vaping. In RBA mode you have the power to set your wattage at any range up to the full power output of 100 watts.
Each of the power modes has it's own color as well which is kind of nice giving the display screen a new look Turbo - (RED) Smart - (ORANGE) RBA - (BLUE) TC - (GREEN). Getting into the menu system is very easy and easy to navigate through as well.
MENU SYSTEM
* On/Off - 5 Quick Presses Of The Power/Fire Button
* To Enter The Menu System - Press And Hold Both Adjustment Buttons Simultaneously
* Once In The Menu Use Either Adjustment Button To Move To The Mode Or Setting Selection, Once There Press The Power/Fire Button To Open it, Once Your Selection Is Made Press The Power/ Fire Button To Lock In And Activate Your Selection
I have to say that Voopoo has done it again releasing another winner of a Kit with the Argus MT. Hand fitment is great with thumb or finger fire and it has a good weight to it, not light or heavy either. Build quality of the device feels above average with no button rattle and a nice tactile feel to them with a audible click from all the buttons. There is no lag in firing of the device what so ever.
PROS
* Attractive
* Solid Build
* Easy Menu
* Bright
* Vivid
* Very Good Flavor
* IP 68 Rated
* Lock Switch
* 3A Charging
CONS
* Wattage And Font Size Should Be of Equal Size
* Lanyard Ring
* Slight Rattle Of Adjustment Button And Charge Port Door
FINAL IMPRESSIONS
A big thumbs up to Voopoo on the release of the Argus MT Kit, it seems that in the past 8 months that Voopoo has really stepped up their game releasing winner after winner of devices and kits from pods to full sized kits of which several of each are in my daily rotation of personal use.
I would think most if not all of you can agree that the XT is a very attractive device alone but looks don't make a winner. The reason I consider it a winner is the vape that I get from the kit including the Matte Tank and TPP Coils, very flavorful with more than enough vapor.
Having 3A charging is also one plus that lets you come to a full charge quickly and something I forgot to mention is that when charging little animated bubbles rise from the bottom of the display screen like carbonation bubbles from soda, very cool looking!
The lock switch work great and I wish every device had one, I know it takes not time to press a button 5 times quickly but sliding a switch is quicker when putting it in a pocket and also quicker when ready to vape again.
I really like the Turbo mode getting that little added kick of power at the beginning of a vape, for most people the Smart mode will prove beneficial preventing accidental wattage adjustment over the maximum wattage for the coil installed.
Using the supplied 0.15Ω coil rated for between 60-80w and a best setting of 65-75w I never needed to exceed the minimum of 60 watts for very good flavor so this coil will last a little bit longer vaping it at it's minimum recommended wattage and help preserve battery life.
Using the 0.2Ω coil rated for between 40-60w and a best setting of 50-55w I found my sweet spot at 52watts. Out of the 2 coils I prefer the 0.15Ω because it edges the 0.2Ω coil out by a bit with flavor in my opinion, every vaper is different so my findings might be different than yours but both supplied coils put very good flavor.
I would like to thank Nical and Voopoo for providing the Argus XT Kit for the purpose of this review and I hope that I answered all of your questions about the Argus XT Kit.
THANK YOU
