Hi. First off, I would like to say that I have read so much about batteries & how to choose them, be safe using them, etc. So I really don't need more info about that. What I need is someone to hold my sad little hand cuz I'm clearly challenged in this area.

I know I need an IMR 18650 battery with a flat top....and that's about all I know (really at this point I don't even know if what I "know" is correct so if it's not feel free to correct me). I have looked on some sites that others have suggested for buying their batteries (trusted sites) but I can't seem to find what I think I need there (no flat tops) or if the right battery is there I don't recognize it.

So can someone please direct me to a supplier & tell me exactly which battery will be appropriate for the Itaste VTR.

Thanks so much and so sorry I can't seem to wrap my head around all the battery info. This is why I still use Ego twists (lol).

ty Stosh. :) I did go to that site but as I said I didn't recognize which would be ok & which would not. Those letters on the ends just confuse me.
The battery that Stosh suggested is probably the best battery on the market for e-cig mods.

The numbers and letters on the batteries can be very confusing. The following blog may help clear some confusion: Deeper Understanding of Mod Batteries

High drain, safer chemistry batteries are what are recommended for both regulated and mechanical mods presently. The above Panasonic hybrid is both safe chemistry and high drain. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected?

RTD Vapor is an excellent source for battery chargers, too. Get the best that you can afford. The best batteries deserve a great charger. Pila, Xtar, and Nitecore all make great chargers.

I have three of the button top Efest 18650 batteries for my VTR I've been using since early October without a hitch and great performance. Like two days per battery, day and a half... And I bought the storage cases too. I'll grab the link

What issues have you had? Longevity?

Not a fan of Efests myself. I've used AW IMR in different sizes for over a year, some of them are nearing 1.5 years old and still going strong. They last nearly as long as their listed mAh rating.

This past summer I decided to get some Efest 18350 IMR's for my Mini Provari and some 14500's for my daughter's mechanical mod. Things were fine for a couple of weeks, but then I noticed a sharp drop off in capacity by nearly half over the next week. My daughter noticed the same with her batteries. The Efests were soon shelved in a drawer and we are both using AW's. Very disappointed in the Efests.

Nice, thanks for the explanation. I've wondered about the differences. I'll try some out once these efests run their course. Thanks again for always taking the time to post!

I am going to be using Panasonic NCR18650Bs in my VTR, the same ones I use in my SVD. I know they will be just fine.
Yeah, those will "work" in a regulated mod if you don't push them hard. But they are no where near being an "ideal" battery for a regulated mod like the VTR. These are actually lousy batteries for mods that use boost regulated ciruitry using pulse width modulation. I'll try to explain why...

Understand that the Panasonic NCR18650B is not a "high drain" battery (normally recommended in a regulated mod that uses boost circuits for higher voltage). It also only has a 6.8 amp limit.

Because the VTR converter is a pulsing device (PWM = pulse width modulation), the pulsed battery current can be a factor of 2 higher than the average current. The battery needs to supply pulsed currents of over 9 amps. Therefore, don't push these batteries hard. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/464802-these-panasonic-ncr18650b-batteries-fake-15.html#post11227039

Orbtronic actually sells this battery as a Panasonic clone and states it is not for ecigs, but for appliances like flashlights.

Thank you!

I don't push mine hard...I am a little old lady and have no intention of upping wattage, pushing, kicking or diving into sub-ohm.

These are also the only ones I can actually get here where I live, so in fact I am very happy that they work at all. In the US you are likely to have more choices, so get the best you have available. :)
