My neighbor Saw me with my EA/KFL blowing clouds and struck up a conversation. He is on some nameless brand of cig-a-like and wants to upgrade to "One of those SS mods with a screen" that he has seen. I have been in the mech mode for a while so want opinions to forward to him. I'm not worried about VW as long as is has VV, I'll teach him how to use it regardless of what he gets.

This is what I got off the top of my head, feel free to comment if you would take one off the list for a given reason, or if there is one I haven't listed.

Upper price/quality range:
Provari

Budget:
Vamo
sigelei ZMax v3
Tesla

For a simple to use and good quality topper especially coming from cig-a-likes...
Topper:
Protank 2

Help a brother help a brother out. I want to give him solid advice. He still switches between analogs and digitals, maybe a good device will push him past the point of no return.

ProVari for the upper-end of course.. ;) Smooth 800Hz compared to the 33.3Hz Chinese rattlesnakes, a warranty with a company in the USA who will even repair / upgrade the device for a nominal cost after the warranty expires, and proven accuracy / durability / dependability.

If the person is not sure he would want to vape long-term, just pick one off the budget list they like the looks of best. They all use the same electronics for power delivery.

EDIT: The OLED screen on the Sigelei is kind of cool. I had one, and it's a decent budget device. :)

As much as I love my Provari's.. getting one and everything that's needed to operate it (batts, charger and whatever topper) can get overwhelming and expensive to someone semi newish. I recommended this kit to someone. They bought it and brought it to me to show them what to do. It was the first time I'd messed with an itaste and was impressed. I set it at 8watts and told him to leave it there for awhile till he got used to how it works. The iclear 16's that come with it are pretty nice and worked well on it. I told him not to throw them away and to bring them back to me and I'd rebuild them for him. This is the v3, the latest version that charges with an ordinary micro usb. He said he used his phone charger to charge it. I comes with a nice, retractable charging cord.

Anyway, it's a nice little all-inclusive, inexpensive kit. It also comes in black for the manly man LOL

Here's another option for him. Everyone seems to love the evods and they're easily rebuildable.

a vamo and a good AW battery is hard to beat price to performance wise if you're just using cartos/BCCs and such. and the newest model has the oled screen.

i've been eyeing the provari, SID, Evic myself. I'll probably pick up an ego vv or itaste vv soon for a more portable setup too.

Other than the Provari, my favorites are my Sigelei Zmaxes, however I really don't think anything on that list is a bad choice. Provari if you are planing on vaping for the long haul and can swing the price. The Smoktech SID might be worth looking at, I also kind like some of the Innokin stuff, like the SVD and MVP.

No matter what he chooses he has a great coach. Maybe when he advances you can teach him rebuildables. I know your AGA blog was very helpful to me.

I'm considering the Innokin iTaste SVD - any opinions here either pro or con please..... I've been using the Joyetech 18650 mod & do have the iTaste MVP. While I don't like the size of the MVP (very small hands) I do like the fact that I can up or down the range. I do want something as simple as my 18650 so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated......

For the price, you really can't go wrong with an itaste svd or vamo v3 stainless.
I think the svd is more sturdy and the buttons have a better feel.
When I'm not in the mood for taking my mech and dripper out of the house, I always reach for my svd topped of with a protank.
Good solid setup.
Cheap from fasttech.
Grab a nitecore charger off amazon for 20 bux and a few nice batteries and all is well in the world.

Thanks so much for the quick reply - you wrote what I was hoping to hear. I have a load of Panasonics & several Nitecore chargers (you HAVE to have back-ups for your back-up). I've ordered from Fasttech in the past & was very impressed; received my order in 4 or 5 days. However, I noticed that as of late, they've been getting a ton of negative reviews; therefore, I found a vendor that's approx. $20 more but it's worth it to me. Now I have to decide on the finish - major decision ......THANKS AGAIN!!! :)

What's shipping time from fasttech?

I was placed in a similar position a few months ago. I knew there was more to vaping than the cig-a-likes and wanted to bump it up.

My first purchase was a ego twist VV device. I still use it, its just generally in the car. Its got a long battery life and looks good with both the Kanger Protank and Mini.

I recently ordered an Innokin MVP. I've been blown away by this device. It lasted me around a day and a half of chain vaping. It'll charge other devices and has twice the battery of an iphone. I've been in love with it.

I own both a Vamo and a Sigelei zmax mini. I'm kicking myself for not buying the full telescopic Zmax. I find that I prefer my Sigelei more than any, since I prefer VW to VV.

I would not refer the Vamo, especially if you're using Knager. I'd always heard about problems with the pin when screwing a kanger on too hard. I ignored it and now I have a Vamo that I can only use my iClear 30 on.

Short answer, look at an Innokin MVP, if you'd like to spend a little more for something you'll always want to use, go with the Sigelei Zmax. If both of those are too high, look at a lavatube clone.

I've also played with the SID at my local shop. I might buy one of those and see if they're a little more friendly with Kanger Tanks.

Chi-you clone mech mod (27 bucks) + kick 2 (45) + 2 eldest 18490 (15) + charger (20 to 25) and he will have a better experience / performance than that of the provari ( and I do own one, I'm just in love with my recently acquired kick 2, converts anything I want to vw, right now working just perfect in a REO Grand)

Right now it's pretty bad because customs just stirred up the whole unsafe battery deal in HK.
Everything is being xrayed and is taking quite so time to make it through.
Any orders that get caught with batteries trying to make it on a plane get sent back to the sender.
If you're gonna order batteries, which I recommend against doing at the moment, as they would need to take the slow boat.
Get your batteries from a us supplier.
