I have more than blown my current vape budget but would like to try Variable voltage. I found a pass through on fasttech for $7.51 ( $7.51 Variable Voltage USB Passthrough Battery for E-Cigarette at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping ) that steps through the voltage at 3.2/3.6/4.2/4.8. My question is: will I be getting the "vv" experience from this or would I get turned off by the lack of level increase? Would I be better off waiting a month or two and spending the money on a "real" VV?

Thanks gang!

I would not go there. This model looks to be straight-wire, no battery, which means very high current load on the USB port. Most computer USB ports are not rated for the 2+ amps this can draw, and would likely fry out. You would need a powered USB port rated to handle this. The design is off too...seems there is nothing to grip! Cable is only 3/4 m, too, which is pretty short. No telling who makes it, either.

If you want inexpensive VV, I recommend the Vision Spinner (Vision Spinner VV eGo Battery 1300mAh). Lots of vendors have them, not just MVS. I love mine. Very similar to the Ego Twist, but I think it is built better, and the knob is easier to read and turn. Goes from 3 - 4.8 V, and is fairly accurate. Mine (1300 mAh) will last me all day at 4V with an LR carto. Been used heavily every day for well about a year, and no sign of weakening.

The benefit of VV is finding exactly the power you want for a given coil. The model you mentioned would be too hot for me at 4.2V, and too weak at 3.6V, if my carto is about 2.0 ohms.

Fasttech sells the Vamo which is not only VV but, VW as well. It is my favorite PV to date. They only cost around $30 with the code at Fasttech. If it were me, I would wait until I had $30 and go for the Vamo.

Good luck to you!

ETA- I have a few Spinners and I did like them while they worked. A few friends and I have not had good luck with the Spinners holding up for very long. Spend $5 more and get a Mod that is going to be durable JMHO

I have eGo-Twists and Vision Spinners and like them both. I agree with my learned colleagues that you should get a true VV device.

That deal from Fasttech is a very good one; if you decide to get a Vamo, make sure it's the stainless steel V2 version that has both 510 and eGo threading--other finishes are not very sturdy and people had to get wraps for them. :)

I have this one:

GP eCo-T Style VVPT Variable Voltage USB Passthru

... thanks to a friend... and I like it for sampling via dripping. I have a 2.0 ohm atty and a drip tip on it. And I use a wall wart not the computer. Never has gotten 'hot' and haven't had any problems with it.

Works well enough to give you and idea what a flavor tastes like at the voltages available. With just a 510 atty and drip tip, it's the smallest PV I have :) and I like it. The wattage steps from around 5 to 6.5 to 8.8 to 11+Watts so it gives you a good enough idea of the area where the flavor tastes best. However, with some flavors even a half a watt can make a difference, in my experience, so a MORE variable device (or changing to different ohm coils) is best. But for sampling, this is a cheap way to find a range of a sweet spot for sampling flavors. Then you can hone it down when you go to a 'regular vaping device' with tank, carto, clearo, etc. for going out and about. ;)

I wasn't going to comment again because this question has been cover very well but I do have a comment about the ego twist and vision spinner.

I just got a spinner because I loaned out my twist and never got it back. So far I like the spinner best. At 1300mah it it a bit fatter than the twist but only a little and battery life is a lot longer. I love the knurled voltage ring and the voltage indicator numbers are much easier to read than on the twist. I haven't had it very long so I can't say whether it would out last a twist but I do like it better. But...I have to agree with the others. If you want VV you need to go with a true vv mod that increments by .1 volts. There is a large gap between those step voltage PVs and you need those missing increments.
