Hello and welcome. Variable voltage/wattage devices have electronics in them, so you can just adjust them to get the vape you want. Mechanical mods have no electronics, the voltage supplied by the battery is exactly what you get to the atomizer. If you want to change the vape with a mechanical mod you have to change the resistance of the atomizer. There are other specifics, but that's the main differences.

Goooooood Morning Ben !!! bacc.vap is right on point. Mech mods & rebuildables can be tricky & dangerous for the inexperienced. I would suggest a MVP or Istick first. Geat devices with plenty of power that will improve your vaping experience while you learn about the Mech/RDA stuff.

I'm no expert, but batt is batt. Voltage is the same output for most batt.s Coil resistance is what determines performance in a mech mod. Ohm's law. given a sorta fixed voltage with different resistance coils , low ohm coils heat faster and burn hotter, higher resistance heat slower and cooler, maybe vise versa, Or I've totally forgotten Electronics 101. MAH determine batt life. low mah short life high long life, per charge. Smack me down if I'm wrong it's been 30 years since I studied electronics.

After the introduction of high powered vv/vw devices, I see no real need for a mech. The pro's for vw/vv outweigh those of mech to me.

This. I've been vaping for a long time and tried a lot of different things as the technology has changed, and I'm getting the best vape I've ever had out of a vw device at 23 watts. It's better than anything I've ever built on a mech (even though it's half the wattage of many of my mech builds). The only reasons to use a mech now are 1) you're used to them and don't want to change, 2) you're afraid this stuff will get banned altogether and you want something with no electronics that can die eventually, or 3) you love to tinker with stuff and rebuilding your drippers and tanks isn't enough.

Thanks for the help guys, after reading through and thinking, I think I'll be better off with a something like a istick for the time being

Take a long look at the MVP 20. 20 watts give you a lot of power to learn on with a good solid device. Pick up a simple dripping atty. and some wick and wire and you will be all set for the next step ;)

I have to agree with this, I think mech's now are more for tinkering or collectible status.
With something like a Cloupor T8 and a Sub Tank or Atlantis, it's really hard to justify the aggravation anymore.

Also for those who work and play for a living. Anything that has to live with me is going to take a beating. When I'm doing certain activities where I know I'm going to get banged around a lot, a Mech and a dripper are in my pocket.

5) like the smaller form factor :)

My daily device was a cana mod - and i still use it daily.
I have a 4nine I put in 18350 mode withh a kayfun built at 1.6 ohms for when I need a stealth setup (dont want people to see my P.E.N.I.S. [personal electronic nicotine inhalation system] when talking with clients!!)
I just got a Reo, which is a mechanical. Wanted something regulated, but didn't want a huge mod - needed something sturdy and didn't like the wood variants. I use the Reo 90% of the time now (got it about a month ago).

I do agree, as far as performance, a regulated mod is much better than a mech mod.
