Is this for real?

Why yes, yes it is. Neat, isn't it? Now go burn a box of patches to celebrate. (Probably not a good idea - pretty sure that would release all manner of toxic substances.)

Just work hard on remembering how easy it was this time. We don't want you to forget you quit! Actually it might be kind of weird how quickly smoking may seem like a distant memory.

Congrats and welcome!

Yep - congrats! I don't know my quit date - I think it was sometime in March. Just
one day realized I don't smoke anymore =)

Yeah, I didn't jot down my quit date either, it was just an impulse buy. I do remember how I got started - I looked at a disposable and asked the guy at the counter - "How does this work?" He said "I don't know, you want buy? It's $10". I said "Ok."

Even crazier: This afternoon, I had to go out to the UPS Store to ship some equipment.

I left my PV on the kitchen counter and didn't realize that I'd done it until I got back.

That's what I love. No more "OH MY GOD I'M DOWN TO MY LAST 12 CIGARETTES WHERE THE HELL IS THE CLOSEST 24 HOUR KWIKEE MART!!!" moments.

I've forgot my PV once, had all my batteries die in the car at the same time once, and been in the hospital for two overnights (and those time I even brought my PV - didn't use it) - no freak outs. We sure are addicted to something about smoking. But vaping takes that addiction all the way down to the other end of the spectrum.

goin on nearly a month now and it does feel like i cheated. It really seems like it's too good to be true but it is, I think that's what freaks us vapers out the most. I didn't even try and free from that ball and chain.

I too have lost weight, around 10 lbs. I would usually buy some soda and snacks when i would buy my cigs for my drive home. I haven't been inside a bodega (mini mart) or a 7-11 since I quit. It's funny the little things in your routine that you had no idea were connected to smoking.

I also see a ton of smokers on my commute, and when I see someone light up now it's like eww you still do that? It's a little condescending, I know, but it just seems like a no brainer to me now. I wish I could hand them my pv and say "try this" while were both stuck in traffic. More people need to know about this wonderful thing called vaping, SPREAD THE GOSPEL.

Yep. This. Is. What. I'm. Feeling. :)

Yep. It's almost spooky huh?

You know I can't even pin down that... "last day"? All I can tell you is I got a batch of new e-liquids in and needed cabinet space and what cigs were left in the last surviving pack and the ashtrays were in the way. I needed the room. I threw them in the trash without even thinking about it. They were in the way.

It was days later I realized I had thrown away cigarettes and ashtrays.

Me. The guy who didn't leave the house without making sure he had an extra, unopened pack (on top of the one that stayed in the pickup) and at least two lighters (because one might go out).

It was all very pod people... :D

I didn't even think about my last smoke until opening this thread up, hard to believe it's been two and a half months since I lit up too. Out of sight, out of mind I guess, though I did find a few old lighters in my bag, kept 'em for the same reason as the OP, oxidizing wire and cleaning wicks..not to mention it's just a good survival habit to keep one on you in a car/on a hike/etc.

Vaping definitely does help weight loss too, nice to see I'm not the only one having the 'diet effect' from it..though for me it's not so much I'd buy snacks and smokes together, it's just that I vape dessert flavors a lot and that usually satisfies my cravings for sweets. Not keeping track but I probably dropped five pounds in two months, pretty shocking given that I haven't had time to exercise and am still not working full-time again.

Also, while others have said it, congrats on quitting, even if you didn't realize it! Wonderful feeling I'm sure.

I can't recall how many times I tried quitting before e-cigs. I literally cannot remember - I lost track. It was torture every time. Gum or patches - I was just dying for a cigarette. Then you get to e-cigs with the official There Are No Rules rulebook. And it's like "god I want a cigarette!" Vape - "Wow! That tastes pretty good!" Next thing you know you are vaping more and smoking less and.. poof! it's all over. How/when that happens varies from one person to the next - that's in the official There Are No Rules rulebook too. It's all part of the fun! Quitting with e-cigs can be the exact experience - every different person needs. It just works without having to think about it too much.

Didn't realised it contributed towards your glycemic control? you learn something new everyday...

Anyways for this type 1 insulin dependent diabetic its 3 whole weeks since i made the conscious decision to stop and have managed VERY well since then (only sharing 1 Pk of analogs with the mrs when we were on a day trip and she "forgot" to pack spare batteries and e-juice... grrr... still, it wouldnt have been a fun time for the family on the beach if daddy had been a grumpy bear with no nicotine...). Lets see what the HBA1C test at my next review reveals...

As a type 1 diabetic myself, I also wasn't aware cigarets had any effect on blood sugar... To be honest I'm pretty sure they don't. Hear me out here, cigarettes and diabetes? Really, really bad combination for heart problems later on. After being diagnosed with diabetes, my Doctors seriously advised I give up smoking. Looking at alternatives led me of course to ecigs and 2 years later that's where I still am.

I can't see how cigarets could effect blood sugar though. Yes there is a small amount of sugar in cigarettes, but the body doesn't absorb it when burned and inhaled the same as through ingestion. Even if it did, vaping would surely be worse, given how sweet some vapes are and that some almost certainly have sugar in them. I could do a blood sugar test sometime. Vape on a fast (no food, milk, anything with sugar in) and vape only and see if it spikes my bloods or not, be interesting if dessert style sweet vapes had any direct effect or not?

I'm not sure what the cause of the BG drop was, but it was definitely after I started vaping. And it was a sharp drop - earlier this year if I had a fasting BG of 190, I would consider that a good day. Now, I get sub 100 readings every morning.
My guess: improved lung function allowing the lungs to better expel CO2 from the blood stream, or perhaps it's related to my higher energy levels not being slowed down by clogged bronchi. Since I can breathe better, there's no reason for me to slow down and rest, I just keep going.

You may be barking up the wrong tree on this one. It is known that smoking affects your endocrine system in all sorts of wacky ways. For some rare people weight gain after stopping smoking (not in context of starting vaping) has nothing to do with stuffing their face, it's from the suppression smoking causes to the (...drat! can't think of the name now) gland. It's rare - but it's a case where stopping smoking period is the source of the change.

What you are seeing may be more the result of simply quitting smoking. It's definitely one of those questions to put to your MD regarding both things you have done: quit smoking and started vaping. If your Doctor isn't open minded enough to at least look at the pros and cons of vaping and just dismisses it as "you're still smoking" (some do), they may not be open minded enough in general to be a good MD. Just sayin...

Just a newbie caution: There tends to be an impulse to attribute any new thing happening to your body to be vaping related. And this can just get scary when you see people on the board posting questions like "I have blood in my stool. Do you think it's vaping related?", "After a day of vaping I have chest pain. Should I try VG instead?" So not kidding here. Those are barely paraphrased real questions that have come up here. OUT of context of vaping, these are the kinds of symptoms/problems that would have sent any sensible person to seek out immediate medical attention. After vaping - chest pain, difficulty breathing, rashes and even blood in a toilet bowl somehow must be a lesser concern - because of speculation the symptom must somehow be a vaping connected thing.

Please don't mess around with your health. If anything you experience would have been perceived as a medical concern before you started vaping, never assume that any new thing going on must now only have a vaping related connection, and consequently doesn't mean anything. If someone is on the board complaining of "vaping related" chest pain... just get your .... to a Doctor before you start asking questions here.

The blood sugar drop is an interesting observation. But your Doctor is where you need to get those questions answered. Telling your MD you quit smoking is great, but withholding that you started vaping does both you and your MD a disservice. Don't be shy - let them know how you managed to quit.

Getting off the soap box now...

I also think it's related to metabolism and better general conditions. Fore sure i'm more active without analogs.

Same thing happened to my husband...his battery just wouldn't work when he got up Wednesday morning. He has two huge tubs of tobacco and boxes of tubes sitting right here on his desk...but instead of rolling a few to tide him over, he just went to work and took a trip to the local B&M later that day. LOVE IT!
