After two months of vaping, I am feeling that I might have this all down. After going through about ten different clearomizers and cartomizers, I found that carto tanks are what works best for me.

i found the juices that work for me and rotate between the four on a regular basis so can just order larger bottles. I was a regular at one of my local b&m shops until I figured this all out but now I am ordering online and starting to see some substantial savings. That never was an inexpensive venture.

i am thinking that I can continue like I have for the past three weeks with a $40/month budget which would have been four packs of smokes(approximately one week).

i thought that this was going to be way more expensive but am so happy to see it finally plateauing. Maybe in another month, I will get my toes wet in the diy juice and start saving even more!

anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for all of the great info and support because without ECF I might not have stuck with vaping!

I've reached a point where I'm not spending anything a month on vaping. (Which it turns out is a good thing since I've been unemployed for 6 weeks).

During much better times, I accumulated 9 mods, at least 12 batteries for them, 2 battery chargers, 12 cartotanks, a few clearomizers with replacement heads, a few months worth of cartomizers, 2 months worth of vendor prepared e-liquids, 500 ml of unflavored nicotine e-liquid and several flavor concentrates for DIY e-liquids. I haven't spent a dime of vaping supplies in 2 months.

Good for you. I wish I could say that for myself but I have enough juice for the zombie apocalypses save for more batteries that would come in handy. I have many varieties of juice, there are quite few I have to tweak so I have some DIY flavors on the way to make them more palatable...and create a few new ones.

I spend more on DIY than anything. I got my SVD a while back and since then I've not bought any other mods as it does exactly what I need it do and handles the coils I build (1.3-2.2 ohm) without any issues.

DIY averages $50-$200 a month right now as I'm in sample mode and enjoy testing the waters with various flavors from various vendors. I used to smoke a pack a day myself, which comes out to $150 over 30 days, so some months I save and others I'm in the hole.

I would have spent about $45 a month on cigarets x4 months=$180+20 gas=$200 and I saved $40 in dr co-pay's and about $100 in prescription and OTC med.= total $340 for smoking. I really can count that in my expenses because I have had those for the last 4 or 5 years every Sept/Oct(not counting the upcoming months which would add in more for ear infections etc from being sick)

I've spent about $600-$800 already..but that also included about $150 for family members. The largest expenses were the 2 spinners and 3 vv/vw. 3 egos had died so I didn't have too much choice replacing those.
Of course the biggest saving has been my health as the saying goes "priceless"

Old art school saying for Future Starving Artists: "If you're paying full price for anything, you're doing something wrong."

I used to spend $53 for a carton of cigarettes twice a week to get my nicotine. I'm spending less than that now each month on vaping.
Added bonus to that is I'm discovering it's more efficient to not spend a lot of cash to kill yourself.

Congratulations on your two months and your revelations.

Congrats on getting all set so fast! I'm about 1/2 way there. Just need to buy 1 or 2 other APV's and some twist/spinner backups, and a few more juices, and....

OK, less than 1/2 way there, lol! :D

But seriously, I've tapered off the spending in a big way. First month was a killer (twice what I spent on smokes), 2nd month was worse (triple), was on maintenance for a couple months and last month I didn't buy anything at all. The next few months I'll probably spend what I spent on smokes (about $150) or less.

Glad to hear you can save money with vaping once the initial layout cost is complete. I had my doubts. Being new to vaping I had to get how to vap correctly first. I tried to smoke it like a tobacco cig. I think I have it correct now, so next hurdle is to get the cost down. This forum site is indispensable for the help I have found with both.

Most of us middle class people consider even a tooth paste to the expenses about smoking vs vaping what are you doing my friends? Do you know the difference of fast pace walking breath after/before? Do you know the difference smoking during climbing stairs or vaping? Do you know what it is to wake up without coughs? how much is it?
Besides I am a roughly 8 months vaper. I have a working a set of red kiwi (ego like) an evic 2 batteries and a clone vivi nova. with some juices and paraphernelia which would last me months I paid $400 until now. I was handrolling raw tobacco so I think mine was cheapest. $55-$60 monthly it would come $450-$500 Even I am in the balance so nobody should worry about costs. I roughly spent $30 for new liquids yet and even if I buy a $250 cost of APV I would still be on good because it should add 20 to my monthly expenses (Provided it is good for a year) No my friends if you are not out of your mind you will settle down someday and overall expenses would still be less than smoking.

Good for you Jen-a. You got there quicker than I did!

I paid very little for smokes at about $30 a week. I had a few months when I started vaping where I went over that a bit. Luckily I never succumbed to 'shiny syndrome'. You know, where you just can't get those lovely, shiny gadgets out of your mind until you pull the trigger. I'm also pretty handy and mostly got what I bought to work pretty well for me. ECF really helped with that. Very nice to have everyone here able to answer questions when you have them!

These days I use mech mods mostly with RBA's and I make my own juice. That makes vaping really affordable. Plus I get to fiddle as much as I like . DIY supplies are a bit more expensive in Canada as opposed to in the US. I'm still spending under $15 a month for juice. Maybe $1 a month for wick and wire. Another $10 a month for hardware and I'm good.

I am still a couple hundred dollars over my break even point in the 3 months I have been vaping. I was extremely fortunate to have a veteren ECF member gift me a liquid that turned out to be my all day vape in my earliest days. But I have been on a mad juice hunt for a backup to that adv. Very costly and like kissing a lot of frogs before you find your prince. I have found a second vendor and new adv so I am now set. I have backup equipment and juice I love. The two golden rules of vaping have been met. Hopefully I will start saving money soon.

Welcome to ECF and enjoy your time here. Lots to read and learn and share. Sounds like you have made a solid foundation for yourself to build upon. Congratulations.

Yes Jen, check out the DIY section for tips and vendors. I just got into DIY one week ago. My first batch of juice, with lab ware included in my calculations, cost me just under $4 for 50ml of juice. And the taste was incredible. What I really like is being able to fine tune my VG/PG ratio, flavor % and nic level. I have 15 different extract flavors, so that I can experiment a bit. Have already developed 2 ADV recipes that I will always have on hand.

Kewl thing is, when testing a recipe, I only make a 10ml batch, and if it sucks, I'm only out 80 cents and a little bit of time. I've dropped all my Juice Vendors, have even recreated my favorite flavors, and found a new favorite.

Vape long and Prosper!!!
