Wall outlet USB adapters vs Computer USB ports

I think it has to do with how many milliamps the adapter is rated at.
My first 510pt would work every where because I think it had the inline battery.
The one I have now is straight from 5v usb and barely works at 1000ma but works great from usb hub self powered not connected to computer rated at 2.5 amps. I dare not connect it straight to pc usb..lol

I thought the usb spec calls for the computer usb port to deliver a max of 100mA unless specified by software to do otherwise (thru the usb's data port, which isn't used with a passthru). There must be a way to trick it into givin up da ampz ?
