Want to try snus and need some help

Hello all,

I've been trying to quit smoking (about 1/2 pack lights per day) and wanted to try snus. vaping hasn't been working for me so far. So...I have a few questions that I hope you all can help with.

Is purified snus good to try?

Where can I order from in the US, preferably with US Mail shipping as UPS and Fedex are really expensive to where I am. Purified snus I have only found at Northerner and they ship UPS.

I've read the beginner's guide here but am still wanting some suggestions as to what I should try first. Being discrete is very important to me so spitting is not an option.

The big problem is going to be shipping. Since the PACT act you cannot get smokeless tobacco shipped by USPS. All the internet shops only ship by UPS.

The purified is okay but I wouldn't want it to be the only snus I use. It's more like nicotine gum then snus. The missing elements you are likely looking for is not going to be there. I would suggest trying stonewalls or ariva instead of purified. The best place to by them is Lil Brown shack

Check out buying snus from Snus Central instead of Northerner. They may have much better prices for you. Minis may work well for you

Look on lilbrown like Stubby mentioned. I think you can get some general brand snus there as well as the stonewalls.

yeah purified snus is NOT a good place to start. I learned that the hard way. it's just like BAMMMMM with the nicotine. made me throw up from a nicotine overload. especially considering you smoke lights, you probably won't want all that nicotine all at once. get some general mini portion, it's not bad. if you get the original flavor drink some sprite with it, tastes wonderful.

Hey, thanks for the replies! Seems now I have a few more questions...

Stonewalls and Ariva...do they have these mysterious missing elements? Is this why some people can't quite get by with vaping alone? I looked at their website and the product looks like little white pills...interesting.

Is loose snus dissolvable like the Stonewalls stuff? I guess I thought snus was like dip, but doesn't cause the need to spit, and at some point you'd have to remove it from your mouth.

How does it work ordering from SnusCentral? Being in Sweden, can they send it in the mail rather than UPS?

Thanks again, guys. This stuff is kind of hard to figure out especially when I have yet to find anywhere local that sells real snus.

Snus comes in either portions or loose. Portions are small pouches and loose is just tobacco in a can. Since the PACT act was passed, tobacco can't be shipped by usps. Only UPS can deliver it. Loose is not dissolvable. The stonewalls are dissolvable and according to Dvap, they do have small amounts of WTA's. Not as much as snus but some.

To add to Hitt's comments and some of the others, you probably want portions rather than Los (loose) since you mentioned wanting to be discrete. I tried baked los once, at home. That's the name for packing los very tightly and placing it under your lip. I went to check the mail, forgot I had los and moved it. Bake was broken up and I had a mouthful of bacci to clean up.

I love the one can of los I've opened, Phantom Classic Brown, but I've learned I'm a portion guy. I bought some large tea bags which I get four to six portions out of. Once you fold them closed and get them wet, they pretty well stay in one piece. The big advantage is you can size your portion to your tastes. Very comfortable under your lip once you get the knack of it.

Don't know what you consider expensive as far as shipping but snus central can get reasonable on larger quantities and really inexpensive when they have quantity discounts. My last order was just under $300 with free shipping. They also have grab bag rolls cheap where you get a variety.

All this may be mute since you really are a light smoker, but even a smaller order with expensive shipping may turn out not bad if it buys you weeks/months of not smoking. Don't have any idea what smokes cost on the island.

Thanks once again for the info...much appreciated! I found a tobacco shop locally that has a small selection of snus...the guy said 6 different types, each about $6. Ouch. I guess that's not outrageous when cigarettes cost anywhere from $8-10/pack. Good news is Lil' Brown Smoke Shack. Tribal Smoke Shop In Yakima, WA > MidNav > Home has very reasonable shipping to Hawaii! $8 via UPS Ground...can't complain there. So, I plan to order General Dry Mini Mint (that's the only mini they have) and a variety of Stonewall and Ariva dissolvables. It's just unfortunate that they don't have much of a snus selection and only a few flavors of the dissolvable stuff.

I started out with mini mints the first couple months that I began using snus. I think it's a good place to start to see if snus is going to work for you. Keep in mind though that the minis are only 4mg where a regular portion is 8mg and you can get them as high as 22mg. So if the minis don't seem like enough nic then there are other options. The general mint regular portion are very similar in taste to the minis but are regular portions at 8mg.
