I'm looking at buying a mod and had my eyes on a vv reo grand, but with all the talk about variable wattage I'm thinking I should go in a different direction. I saw some reviews on the ZMAX that were pretty good, so now I'm leaning towards this device. Just wondering if anybody has any advice or suggestions. Thanks

I'm in a similar boat. Been on eGo 1100's and an 18650 Chuck for a while. Broke my Chuck while being stupid. While it has been in the shop I've been thinking about a back up as the eGo's just aren't the same. I ordered the eGo APV V2 ( eGo APV V2 ) for my wife to give me for Christmas. Good price and looks like a great way to dip my toe into VV apparatuses.

I got a Zmax and all I can tell you if you want one is this: Get the V2. I got the first Zmax and its voltages are all over the place. The V2 fixed these issues and is much better. The build quality is nice though, even on the first one. Feels really good and solid with a nice and clicky button - if not a tad too wiggly.

That is a plus for me. The Chuck is weighty as well. I like a mod that feels substantial. The eGo 1100's feel like I am holding a toothpick by comparison.

How are you liking it overall? Are you using the flat top 18650's? I ordered one, but I have some panasonic 3100 mAh button tops that I am hoping will work.

Sorry to hijack.

seems ok just got my batts in it today, started it up a couple hours ago, using the same aw 2000 18650 button top that goes in the provari, have a panasonic 2250 coming, in a day or two to try in it. Threw it on a scale almost 8 oz without the battery.

The buttons are firm and clicky - been kinda busy but played w it about an hour and seems like it should hold up fine, tried a kangerT2(w ego adapt) and a a7 atty on it. havent had time to really check the VW stuff, just dialed up the V a little to get the atty fired..
I honestly am surprised at the quality i thought it was gonna be this cheap little tube and its really solid. not gonna hold my breath that it will work for years but should easily outlast the warranty.
if it helps it seems to have a pin inside for the battery, i measured from the pin to the bottom of the tube and came up with 70 mm for the battery compartment w out the end cap. if the 2250 fits ok im going to check on a 3k

I decided to go with the zmax. went and picked one up today at a local vape shop. it was on sale for $100 without batteries and charger. i've been playing around with it for a few hours and am pretty impressed. not really understanding the whole wattage vs voltage thing but its cool to have i guess. definitely an upgrade from my ego twists. thanks for the help :)

Variable Voltage/Wattage can also be termed as Constant Voltage/Wattage.

This can be compared to your car thusly:

Variable/Constant Voltage is like holding your car's gas pedal (the voltage) in one spot. The car will increase and decrease speed (your vaping experience) as it goes up and down hills (the resistance of the atomizer). Your vaping experience will vary as does the speed of the car.

Varible/Constant Wattage is like engaging the speed control on the car. The car will maintain a constant speed (your vaping experence) while the gas pedal (the voltage) moves up and down in response to the hills (the resistance of the atomizer) the car goes up and down. Although this will use a bit more gas (watthours) and your battery may not last quite as long, your overall speed (vaping experience) will be quite constant.

Now, if I've not totally confused you, would someone please tell me what I just said???

Perfect analogy, a good way of explaining it for someone that doesn't know much about it. I've been playing around with both the power setting and voltage setting and I do prefer it to be set on power (watts). Such a handy device.

As with any technology, new or old, there will always be glitches along the way.

Even cruse controls as long as they've been in cars don't work perfectly to maintain a constant speed. The car still slows down and speeds up somewhat on hills sometime causing the transmission to shift into another gear.

I don't think there will EVER be a perfect personal vaporizer.

Variable wattage is prolly the future..but,what is sought is actual numbers and test results in long term..provari is tried and tested,IMHO!

There are actual test results:
Morandir test results on the 18350 - RMS on watts

Morandir test results on the 18650 - RMS on watts

Mountain Prophet's test results on volts and watts

Solemn Penguin on the variable voltage. The Provari dropped out over 5.5 volts with 1.5 ohms.

And Phil Busardo's review, with accurate test results:

Great analogy. Not confusing to me. Matches how I've been experiencing using variable wattage actually. Thanks.
