Hey all at ECF! Im relatively new to vaping (just started march 10th) I was a 1PAD smoker for the last 13yrs and im loving being a vape convert. I did a decent amount of research before deciding to convert and im still researching almost everyday. Im currently using an ego-v v3 variable voltage and wattage with resistance checking and just a plain jane kanger t2 clearo. Its been working pretty good but I think im ready to step up to mods and rebuildables, the amount of options out there just baffles me though. Basically what im looking for is some suggestions on where to start with a mod style setup. Any and all help is very greatly appreciated

G'day, I have mods with boost circuits like VTR, MVP2 and Alloy VAMO V2 and mainly run Aerotanks & Trident V2's. Great flexability.
Thought about mechanical mods eg Panzer. Fixed voltage or boosted with a circuit defeats purpose. Just alter the coil ohms and venture into the sub ohm region. Though never intrigued me, handy compact and pack a punch. Choose batteries wisely.
A Russian 91% may be worth a look, well regarded design. Check out Fasttech mate.

Well, if you haven't done so already, the very best place to start would be reading and understanding Ohm's Law and battery safety. At the risk of sounding "preachy" you really need to understand the potential hazards involved with mods and rebuildable atomizers.

If you already have done that (maybe you are an electrical engineer :)), then there is a ton of info here on various mods to help make your decision easier.

Two possible paths do I see, for you to follow. Since I am a proponent of learning to build on a regulated, my first recommendation would be to try and score a DNA30 mod. If you can build and max out the 30 watts, you can do it all. Tough to find, and the china clone dan30 will be hitting hands very soon.

The reason I feel learning to build on a regulated is: safest way to learn, and you can easily adjust your watts burned and not be at the mercy of an off build vaping to high or low. They also have an ohm meter built in, so don't need one right off. But you will find it is advantageous to pick up a ~$20 atomizer ohm meter, more accurate, and more convenient to build on. I do have a dna30 futura, and the thing Vape Rocks!!! Nice to have a great consistent 30 watt vape.

The other path would be, getting a mechanical, and an Kick 2. Reason I recommend a kick 2 is that the kick will turn a mech into a 15 watt capable, regulated mod, with all the safeties of a regulated. Will fire down to 0.5 ohms, so good to practice and develop your builds. Will need an ohm meter also though, but can find a good Nemesis clone, which will fire a kick with an 18650 battery. Then once you have become a competent builder, simply kick out the kick, and bam, "Welcome to the Sub Ohm Zone!!!"

Make sure to get quality IMR 30-35 amp continuous batteries, and a quality charger with a real time volt meter. With mechs, the Vaper is the only safety device, you must ensure and know that the build is good and well maintained, batteries can handle your ohms built, and maintained properly.

rba's to try for first one would be, flash-e-vapor V2, Russian, Kayfun, and Taifun's all are great rba's and an excellent choice. Go with what makes most sense to you.

I enjoy both mechs and high amp regulated mods, love tanked rba's and also mix DIY juiced. Find the vape path the most interests you, and see where it leads.

Vape long and Prosper!!!

Well im not exactly an electrical engineer but I am well versed in ohms law and electrical tinkering and Ive got a very good understanding of battery safety. Im extremely mechanically inclined and have no doubt in my abilities to build an awesome setup, although, im utterly baffled by the amount of manufacturers and suppliers of products to build mod with that I simply just dont kno where to start. I also probably shouldve rephrased some statements of my original post. I am new to vaping but im the type of person who prides themself in knowing as much as possible about things im interested in, and im by no means new to building and fixing things. Just pretty much need some direction on where to buy modding products and some suggestions on decent parts to start off with (thumbs are tired now lol)

What kind of MOD are you looking for, mechanical or vv/vw and how much are you willing to spend? Are you against clones?

I would prefer to go the VV/VW route and really since it'll be my first mod just to see how it goes, im not real keen on spending a lot on it. I figure ill try out the whole process of building my own mod and all that good stuff and if I enjoy it then ill look into stepping up my price range. If I dont end up enjoying it I can always just stick with what im using now. For now id like to maybe stay around the $50 range, im not too familiar with the price ranges for mod stuff anyway lol. I spent $60 all together for what im vaping with now, im still pretty new to vaping so I really dont want to spend a lot of money on vaping quite yet (although still less than Marlboros lol)

The stuff from China is actually pretty good from what I've seen so far. It's pretty close to the real thing with only minute differences (for the most part). $50 isn't really a lot for a mod, I'd say look to the e-go twist or vision spinner with either an evod or aspire ets bdc tank. My first mod was the joyetech e-Vic and it's a great mod worth the $75-ish.

Well what im using now is far better than a spinner. Im using an egoV-V3 with digital display, ohm meter, variable voltage, variable wattage and battery life indicator and I only spent $30 on it plus a kanger T2 clearo that cost me $4. If this is the case should I just stick with this? Ive priced a few digital vv/vw telescopic mods in the $50 to $70 range over the past couple days and checked out eeviews and threads on here about each. Seems like everything has its pros and cons, and theres no "perfect" out there, just the act of chasing that perfect vape. Im leaning towards the itaste SVD as maybe my first mod simply because the problems with them that ive heard about (if not truly already resolved by the manufacturer like they say) are problems that im confident I can fix easily. Any opinions on whether its a decent choice? (Remember its only my "first" mod)

Given the info you've provided thus far I'd say stick with what you got for a little while longer (mod wise) and start looking to upgrade your tanks. There's nothing wrong with the T2 but there's much better stuff out there. Get a rebuildable tank such as the KFL,Taifun, etc and tinker around a bit and keep your T2 handy as a back up. When you get the hang of rebuilding then upgrade to a mechanical.

I was actually kicking that idea around some too considering my battery already does pretty much everything I need it to anyway. I do have a question about RBAs as well, are there any out there that have a bottom coil setup but fill from the top? I use the T2 tank instead of the couple T3S tanks I have just because I like the top fill design, not too keen on the idea of removing my tank from my battery to fill

I haven't really messed with too many RBA's, only the KFL and Taifun so I can't really answer that one too well. One of my friends has a full size Kayfun with a side fill hole (clone) though. What I can say though is the KFL blows Kanger out of the water. After I made the switch I went back to an evod for a week and the whole time I felt like I needed an analog, switched back and instant satisfaction... Let me know what you end up doing.

Lol funny you would say that about an analog, me and my buddy took a trip to Pittsburgh yesterday (we're from ohio) and I asked him for a hit of his analog and let me tell you, it was nasty. Cant believe I actually smoked those for so long lol. To get back on track, how can I really tell the difference between a legit product and a clone? Is it as simple as looking alike but with different brand names?

I'm pretty new to vaping as well, only a month in. I love to go all in with all my hobbies and love tinkering as well. My fav setup so far is a MVP2 with a Ehpro Kayfun lite +. You can get both off ebay fairly cheap. MVP2 $40 KFL+ $35-$50+ depending on the color you choose. The ehpro KFL+ clone is just as good as the authentic if not better and half the price! The taste with my setup is amazing and I hardly ever use my other tanks!
Good luck with whatever you choose and welcome to the forum! :vapor:

Here is an updated version of a Radio Shack 4AA mod I made a while back. I'm now using a simple switch from an old computer instead of a variable voltage switch taken from a passthru. I simply make a 1 ohm coil (triple twisted from flat Kanthal) and stuff it with organic cotton. Simplicity and very low cost. Sorry for the sideways photo. photo (1).jpg
