Warning about USB PT ego batteries

Just wanted to let some new people know (cuz I sure didn't know) that USB PT ego batteries can overheat and burn out ur USB ports on ur computer.

Not sure how many people have had this happen to them but now I have a comp with no usb port and a non working battery (only 15 days old)

I bought it from GoodProphets and just emailed them about it. we'll see what they do.

All I can say it.... Wow it really sux

Good Prophet will probably take care of replacing the PT. They are good about that.

Strange to happen with an Ego PT since it is working off the battery and is basically a charger. I could understand the KR808 PTs since they are 5V. Did you have other things using USB on your computer at the same time?

I just had a wireless mouse/keyboard and an external hd that I wasn't using at the time. I think this simply falls under "oh well .... happens"

Although it still does suck.

That does suck. I think it may be a good idea for people to use an ac wall adapter for their pass throughs (and perhaps chargers too) rather then the computer. I plug my pcc into my computer and my gf charges her ego bats on her computer, but this makes me have second thoughts about it.

Is your computer a lap top or a tower? I had heard not to run them on a lap top....But I use my tower and have for almost 9 months with no problems....I may switch tho to a wall charger.....

I've used a 3.7V PT on my computer, but my 5V is always plugged into an adapter that's on a surge protector.

whats the use to have a passthrough that runs on USB if i can't use it on my usb lol

chances are ya cant prove the passthrough killed your usb port if youcan id ask the manufacture to also fix my laptop they sell them as usb passthroughs but it could be anything a bit of lint even

I plug all usb PTs and chargers into a wall adapter,better safe than sorry.

I had it hooked up to a tower. I may have to buy a card with some USB ports or something. Hopefully that'll work.

Yes you should be able to do that. I've had to do that before too. You can get one cheap off pricewatch.
