If you've taken up vaping as an healthier alternative to traditional tobacco - GOOD MOVE!

If you think you're going to save money - STOP DREAMING!

I jest. But seriously, I ditched my cigar habit almost a month ago. I ordered a starter kit after convincing my wife that I'd be saving tons of money. Honestly I was convincing myself. In reality she would have loved any idea that resulted in me not smelling wretched all the time. Yes, vaping has other "health" benefits if you catch my drift.

However, I haven't saved a dime, lol. What happened? I found all these amazing flavors and PVs. I've had to hide my credit cards from myself because I keep reading reviews on eliquid and buying everything I see. Then there's the PV reviews...a dangerous path for my feet.

UNLESS you do your homework and read the reviews here your start-up costs are going to be much higher than you planned. Thank God for that Christmas bonus! Happy vaping to all!

Good read, and most likely a shared opinion amongst most hobbyist vapers! there will probably come a time in your vaping where you isolate your favorite few flavors, and have completely assembled your dream pv, and things will probably spiral down from there as far as the fun costly sampling of everything!

I read a lot and am spending about what I was on smokes..if I still had been smoking Marlboro's I would be saving a lot of money but I was smoking a native brand tax free that was costing me under $70 a month for over 800 cigs. My average right now is just over $70 a month for e cig stuff (in part because of trying things at the beginning) but has been dropping.

I'm going to buy some stuff in the near future but I think long run I will get it back down and get it under $70 a month average..at least until the gov sticks there nose in and taxes it out of this world like they do with everything they think they can get away with...

I smoked a pack a day at 3.78 a pack 34.50 a carton(L&M Turkish Blend) so I was spending anywhere from 100 to 120 dollars a month on cigarettes.

I've spent 15.00 on a 30ml bottle of juice, 55 for a eGo starter kit, and 30 for some EMDCC's(4) a syringe, and a 10ml bottle of juice. So thats 100 dollars at startup..price will go down now that I know I like the EMDCC and what flavors of juice I am interested in buying..so I'm looking at a 30-40 dollar habit a month(at most) vs. 100+ on top of the health benefits..I'll take it!

Down here in TN packs of malboros are about 6 bucks a pack, but you can get some really cheap ones "Food city" brand for $1.50 and mini cigars (20 pack) for about the same, since "cigars" arnt heavily taxed like cigarettes

You just had to go to reservations and buy native made brands..some of there brands were pretty good and tax free..the USA brands used to be tax free there but last year that changed. The ones I was smoking came in a bag of 200+ for $15.50 and tasted a lot like a MB and were made in northern NY..give it time the gov will tax e cigs..looks like if/when they do I will either be diy or the reservations will carry e cig stuff tax free...

He hops in his time machine and travels back to 1982.

In 82 cigs were probably $0.50+/pack..in 84/85 when I was 15 and started smoking they were around $0.75/pack in NY..they were like $5 or so a carton for MB's when I started driving/going to the reservation in maybe 86/87...

I think that what happens, is many vapors end up vaping more often than when they were smoking! You can Vape anywhere, so the tendency...for me at least, is to chain Vape! This makes it so many will not save money! For some, vaping will not have that effect, and they will indeed save some cash! But the REAL SAVINGS will be your life, and that my friends is PRICELESS!!!!:toast:

Welcome to ECF , and the great "Not saving anything" hobby . I have been at this "hobby" a little more than eight months . Now myself and my wife spent around 300.00 for cigarettes . ( yes , I smoked a lot ) but sadly , I haven't saved a dime . But I don't care . My health has improved so much , I could have spent twice as much , and still it was worth it . I personally have way more PV's , juice , tanks , atty's , carto's , and every other gadget know to the vaping world , but I like new toys , and I can readily afford them , so why not ??? Is this for everybody ? probably not for the timid , but still is way better than the analogs . So skip a meal out once in awhile , make your cappuccino at home , and go buy yourself a new PV , or new bottle of tasty juice . I do , and I'm a happy guy . One only needs to look at my signature , to see what I mean .
