There is a Chinese website asking for votes under the name of http://vapyawards.com/ . Don’t go to this site or vote for. This is actually coming from a site called http://www.e-cigarette-china.com/ . They are phishing for email addresses and sites they can spam. Stay away from this site and don’t post there or give your email address.

I don't see how it would be in our best interest to vote when there are so many manufacturers in china stealing designs like what happened to the screwdriver and the Silver Bullet. Why help supply information to them that will hurt our own modders and manufacturers.

There are also companies like Eastmall producing one of a kind mods....a survey like this would help an Honest company(I don't know that e-cigarette-china is an honest company...but innocent until proven guilty) learn what their customers really want in their products....and would give them the ability to produce one of a kind mod's that would include all of our suggestions and everything we wanted in a mod...If we like it or not...China is the orginator of the E-cig and one of the technology leaders in the world...If given the right info...they have a better chance then anyone else to produce the Perfect mod

If they where honest in there intentions then why would they be masking themselves through a US site domain like 1 and 1 which is like free webs and not leaving any info on who they are.

I don't think this has anything to do with the merits of customer surveys, Chinese mods vs. American ones, or any of that - this has to do with someone possibly harvesting email addresses for the purposes of spamming- under the guise of about what vapers want.

Also Lordmage- if this is true maybe the links in the other thread promoting this should be delinked?

I believe vapys dot com was the other address? Just checked they both have the same registrar "1 & 1 INTERNET AG"

Again- in regards to the second video posted- this isn't about mods, right? The reason we're worried about this is harvesting email addresses yeah? Or phishing (which btw is fraudulently acquiring financial info, are they doing that?)

Because that I have a problem with. But something as inflamitory as deeming this a "war with China" is frankly ridiculous, IMHO. I mean, the guy is sitting there using a Chinese atty :p

I figure it's nothing more than them wanting targeted e-mail addresses for spam. I tried a trace route and a whois. with less than normal results. Could be the services I use aren't working at the moment. Sunday night is a big night for network upgrade/down time.

Regardless I don't give my e-mail address to anyone who I am not doing business with or want to communicate with. They can pay me for it but that will never happen. Your address is worth money.

I used tracert, whois and dns lookups and was unable to find any links to China. I'm a bit confused by the number of threads and videos without any evidence, particularly a stickied post implying ECF supports the warnings.

As a general rule I use poo@poo.com or some variation when an email is required on the net and its not a site that I know won't sell email lists.

If even that. I mean, where did the info that it's even email harvesting come from?

The trace info I saw was pretty normal looking .

What bugs me is the idea that someone is wrong and this person is going to get hit- because everybody is just going to believe it because they read it on the interwebs, and then act on it out of what, some sense of anti-knockoff patriotism? or fear that they're being "phished" (when the people making that claim obviously don't know what phishing is)?

I entered a fake email on the site and it took me right to the survey (which looks benign) - didn't even make me confirm my addy was real by asking for a code sent to my email address. If that's some mastermind scammer... well, they suck at it.

In the field of computer security, phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications purporting to be from popular social web sites, auction sites, online payment processors or IT administrators are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging,[1] and it often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose look and feel are almost identical to the legitimate one. Even when using server authentication, it may require tremendous skill to detect that the website is fake. Phishing is an example of social engineering techniques used to fool users,[2] and exploits the poor usability of current web security technologies.[3] Attempts to deal with the growing number of reported phishing incidents include legislation, user training, public awareness, and technical security measures.

A phishing technique was described in detail in 1987, and the first recorded use of the term "phishing" was made in 1996. The term is a variant of fishing,[4] probably influenced by phreaking[5][6], and alludes to baits used to "catch" financial information and passwords.

its not just to get your bank account its to get any information they can get and oh by the way read the line where the site will LOOK and FEEL like a legit site. keep that in mind

by the by the source we got the info from is legit.
