So i got home today tired and soaking wet from work. I thought I emptied my pockets before i threw my jeans in the washing machine. I started the washer and jumped in the shower to warm up and clean up. When i got out the shower i heard something banging around in the washing machine. I opened it up and low and behold, I forgot to take a battery out of my "watch pocket", so a bright red efest imr18650 was staring back at me. My question is it still good? It seems to still have 4.0 volts and no damage to the casing. I put it on the charger, but as soon as it snapped in the light turned red, i paused, had a panic attack as all the old battery fire and explosion visions ran thru my head and took it out the charger. Anyone washed a battery? Are they still good? Should I charge it in the oven?(for safety reasons in case of fire or explosion?)
Thanks

idk... I know I can get a AW 18650for around 11$ at my local shop, so I wouldnt chance that the plates inside the battery have deveoped corrosion, or whatnot and jsut tape the ends to dispose of it at lowes.

however, I also used a hardshorted panasonic cgr18650ch for a couple days before getting rid of it, so I cant really tell anyone ootherwise =P

I put it in an Efest Soda charger, at least that what the charger says along with alot of battery sizes. I stuck it in my vamo and it hasnt blown up in my face or got hot yet. I vaped on it for a few minutes and the vamo says its still holding 4 volts..

Review of Charger Efest Soda 2014

There is a charge indication on top of the charger, it is at the bottom (minus) end and is the usual red/green leds. They are red when charging and green at other times.

I think you might have lucked out on this...just try not to wash em ;) If it does get hot or start deforming, then IMMEDIATELY stop using it and dispose of properly

^^This. I'm a Safety Sally, so to speak. $10-$12 for a new 18650. I'd just recycle it and get a new one. Not worth the chance of corrosion, etc.

was the battery just loose in you pocket or in a battery case? It sounds like it's dodging bullets right and left, its never a good idea to put a naked battery in you pocket. any metal it hit or even lint can set the battery off in a very unpleasent way.

I would scrap it and buy new batteries. I treat mine with care and love but still have had several throw a tantrum on me. Its never fun when they get hostile, but I do tend to push them harder then my wife who seems to have the most amazing batteries in the world everytime she puts one in her device.

i keep my spare battery in my tiny watch pocket on my jeans, no metal in there ever, nothing but a spare battery. Thanks warhawk for the link. I been charging mine on .5 and now i see the 650s can go on a 1 amp charge. I knew i was supposed to see red when it was charging. I just had a flashback to all the blown up battery pics I ever seen when the light went from green to red. So far so good, still vapin on and no voltage drop, no swelling, no leaking no funny smells..
$11 bucks for batteries might not be a big deal to some, but that could be the difference of eatin, or not for us broke folks. I think Ill take my chances and keep a very close eye on it. Hopefully it will be ok because it would really suck only having one battery.

we aren't saying its not a big deal to spend money on the battery. What we are saying is it a bigger deal to spend money on dental and facial reconstruction. If you came here to ask about the safety of the battery, you yourself were worried. We are just inputting which option we would rather pick at that given time.

I understand broke and would suggest replacing that battery as soon as you can gather 11 bucks for peace of mind.

Yay, I vaped on the newly washed battery all night. I put the charger inside the oven incase something went wrong, i didnt want my house to burn down... I popped the battery in and voila. full charged in the normal time, no swelling, no leaks, no smell, holding voltage. Thanks everyone. I marked this battery so I will replace it as soon as i can allocate funds.
