With winter here and the dry heat in our house a few of my woodvil doors shrunk up a tad.
My original oak was even sounding kinda "scratchy" and loose.

So I grabbed a stick of paraffin and waxed the edges good. Now it fits snug and slides on and off silently :)

Thought I would pass along the trick.

Living in Phoenix where 'dry heat' is the norm, and me aspiring to my first Woodvil when the VV's come out, this is a great tip - thanks. Do you just rub the edges with a block of paraffin, or is it a melt-and-dunk sort of affair?

OOOOO, rub or melt and dunk affair! Sorry Dave! Had too!

Hee hee!

Actually, pipesters have used beeswax for tightening/loosening the pipe stem and shank joints for a long time now. A few light strops is all it takes -- no need to melt and dunk.

Have at me, karen!

Hahaha!

Actually this is a very good thread. The information contained within is well written and gives us all a "quick fix" to a common problem.
Beeswax? Never thought of that one! Pipe stems and shank joints..........and a little beeswax.......couple of strops and...all better....I like that!

Nothing like a quick fix except maybe a longer fix...just to be sure the fix lasts. ;)

I am sure anytime that it gets "loose" more wax can be applied and it would soon be "good to go" again. Ya know, like Tim said "fits snug and slides on and off silently".
