Yeah, I keep seeing murmurs of advances in battery technology, but then nothing ever really turns up, or at least nothing one could consider revolutionary.

I don't quite understand all of the aspects of that battery, but the spec sheet seems to list that it has a 10C sustained discharge capacity (same as IMR high drains) but its energy storage seems to be 10Wh/kg, which I think means a 1kg battery has 10 watt-hours of storage, which means that the average vaper pushing out 10 watts (or 5W each on a dual coil) would get a total of 1 hour sustained discharge (or perhaps 4-8 hours vape time depending on pace) -- on a 1kg (~2lb) battery. That doesn't strike me as having a high energy density. But again I know little about this stuff so it's entirely likely I'm reading that wrong.

Are we there yet?

Apparently not. The first question that comes to mind is how many of us didn't start out looking for small cig-looking e-cigs? Probably zero. The first time I heard about e-cigs my initial impression was they must have invented the right kind of battery for these types of devices.

Even now the focus is not on what customers actually want, which are still slim cigs. The focus is on making the quickest buck. The easy way out. You want one that lasts longer? I'll make a shiny casing that could house big batteries that are already available.

All we hope for now is that netbook manufacturers, cellphone and similar devices, would eventually come up with batteries that could pack power in a miniaturized size. Then the e-cig community benefits. I'm sorry. I just can't get myself interested in owning one of these big fat mods.

my point is capacitor's will be the future... it will be have to be a higher voltage cap with pwm regulation due to the linear discharge, with maybe 1 to 2 hours of usable vape time.. but the win comes in 1000's of charge cycles, and extremely fast charging capability, so 1 batt 1 pcc = win to me. My point you know welll "things happen"......

True. Capacitors have ridiculously low resistance so they can charge and dischage their full capacity almost instantaneously. You could be looking at something like a 5-second charge time. The real problem will be dramatically increasing energy density in a much smaller package suitable for portable electronics, and I don't really see that happening any time soon.
