As I am in the military things were put into place to ensure my paycheck wasn't affected by the government shutdown, but this huge event that I have been planning for for several months and doing long hours for is basically lost today because the folks who were supposed to support us on shore were told to stay at home today. Now we can't complete half of what we needed to accomplish today because of this.
I know a lot of people aren't feeling the ripple of the shutdown, but it affects so many different aspects that a lot of people don't take into account.

the government is closed!
but the courts are still open, cops still roam the streets, and the navy is still at sea.
the mailman will come, we still have to pay federal taxes,
so whats changed?

got a very frustrating bill from a collection agency yesterday.
turns out i owe attorney fees from an arrest in 2009 that i had dismissed at my first court appearance. the letter gave me to 10-5 before it would be reported to the credit bureaus. not just was i unaware of this fee, i dont feel that i should have to pay $450 to cover an expense i should not have incurred.
spoke to the court this morning and was told i still have to pay it.
i mailed them $70 today to prevent them from reporting it.
i have no recourse

You are NOT having a good day, LD and I am sorry! First that darn thingie isn't working right and you are wasting good juice and resources not to mention time and serenity, then injury is added to insult with attorney's fees over an arrest that shouldn't have happened.

Dang! I do hope things look up from here! Hang in there. I feel your pain on both issues.

its for the public pretender, i mean defender

You have to pay for the prosecuting attorney?

it just seems so unjust. i was required to have an atty, knowing the case would be thrown out i wasnt going to hire a private one. makes no sense why i would have to pay for it. the PD should have to pay, it was their ANNOYING mistake!

it also led to me losing my license for 3+ months until i got the case dismissed. which was VERY inconvenient riding a bike 5 miles in 100+ degree weather...

it goes like this, if you are interested.
was arrested on suspicion of dui as i passed a speed trap one night after work. he said i was pulled over for being too close to the car ahead of me, but this is inaccurate, and did not result in a ticket. because i had/have long hair, a beard and a hemp necklace and was young they pulled me out of the car, ripped the car apart, gave me a field sobriety test (which i guess i failed, my balance isn't perfect) brought me to the station, forced me to give blood, and sent me on my way. i had to pick up my car from the tow yard! 275$ to get it out the next day!!
i was sober. i had nothing in the car, not alcohol or drugs. i think they were disappointed that they didnt find anything and charged me pending the blood test. 4-6 months later i got a notice from the dmv that my license is suspended. at my first court hearing the judge dismissed my case and reinstated my license. no probable cause. my lawyer said i was profiled.
i thought that was the end of it until this letter from a collection agency arrived yesterday.
bogus.

that sounds so similar to what happened to my sister.
she has previous DUI's on her record in that county, she had been drinking the night before but was on her way to work the next morning.
pulled her over, breath test, blood test, took her to jail for a few days. they impounded her car that she had to pay to get out.
then she gets a letter saying that they don't know if they're going to move further with her case (probably due to lack of evidence).
