Hey forum. Need some help with an issue I have. Just built a .22 coil. Checked several times for shorts. Put it on my mod - It's a Chi You clone. Did the whole dry fire before I wicked it, to check for hot spots and so forth. Anyway, I noticed a slight 'hiss' sound coming from the firing button. I opened it up and THIS (attached images).

What is this, what caused this and so on. IMG_20140915_183003.jpg

It looks to me like there was a high resistance connection between the battery and the button. A little bit of grease/oil/dirt/oxidation can create a high resistance connection, so when you dry-fired your coil, you were also dry-firing whatever was on the button.

Clean the button and the battery top with some rubbing alcohol, and it probably wouldn't hurt to polish the contact points up a bit - an emery board would work, you just want to polish off the burn marks.

I'd be concerned about what was causing the "hissing" sound. That's either from a melting insulator or a venting battery. Either way, that's not good.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I'm looking at in the first pic posted. It looks like no battery that I'm familiar with. That's one jacked-up battery cap. Where's the green battery shrink wrap of a Sony battery? I see nothing but metal. Is that a hole that I see?

Wrap that battery in electrical tape to prevent it from shorting again and bin it at a battery disposal site. There is absolutely NO reason to reuse it at this point. Polish your contacts up and check all of the insulators in the button. Even better, get a different mod. The Chi clones are decent performers, but if you don't know what you're looking for you're better off scrapping it.

Ok, so I tried to pull it apart with a screwdriver, all that happened was that the button part itself spun. No matter how hard I held it, it would still spin with the driver. Is it possible to buy replacement buttons for shabby clones?

Sticking with my Nemesis currently. Stupid Australia, not easy to come by vape gear.
And thanks for everyones suggestions. Pretty sure that the battery wasn't venting though. Will probably test it again at a later date.

To me that looks like there was liquid on the contact or battery. Could be juice, water, oil or? When I cleaned my switch in one of my mods, I apparently didn't dry it off good enough. Left a brown goo.

That's possible I guess. I did clean the mod a few hours before hand. But it seems so localised, that's why I thought it's weird. Guess it makes sense, I mean, the battery didn't get hot, nor did the mod. And the hissing could have been the liquid boiling?
