weird issue: 510 extender for dripping on LT giving bad flavor

So I FINALLY got myself a 510 extender so I could use my HV atty with my dripshield on my Lavatube -- I noticed when I had the extender connected my vape tasted absolutely HORRID almost like burnt candle wick or something, but if I just used my atomizer as normal there is no foul taste to the juice. A buddy of mine told me that I should try boiling the connector in distilled water for about 10 minutes to clear any primer / flux which I did and it seemed to have helped, I was just curious if anyone else has experienced any issues like this before and what the fix is for it. Can't even imagine how the extender could have an affect on flavor. Is it a sealed extender? If not, maybe cleaning it will eliminate the taste you're getting.

how would i tell if its sealed? boiling the extender seemed to help, im almost wondering if the added quarter inch in height the extender gives is causing the dripped juice to drain faster than when it was just the atty screwed into the tube, definitely seems odd though.
