Ok, I've been using my 510 pretty much exclusively for the past few weeks, and I've gone through 3 atty's in 3 weeks. After about a week of use, I start to get a horrid taste, kinda like burnt plastic. I drip, no cart filler to burn, so that can't be it. I've tried cleaning the best I can, but I'm still having problems. I only vape 2 kinds of juices, some menthol from freshsmoking and apple from totally wicked. I've gone back to my 901 now b/c I'm out of atty's for the 510. I've tried soaking them overnight in coke, boiling them, and using compressed air on them. No luck. Once that taste shows up, I can't get rid of it...

Any other ideas?

Mine did that too man,
I ruined it trying to get that nasty taste out of it.. Reminds me of rotten oranges.. I think it was the menthol that did it.. Going to try to keep an atty strictly for menthol only. Maybe try that? I'm a noob but seemed that's what did it.

Hmm... my 510 attys are still going strong and its been about a month.
I clean them every couple of days. I'm also a dripper, I used to get the burned taste from the filler, but fixed that issue realy quick by either getting rid of it like you, or trimming the filler a little bit more, and pushing it down farther away from the atomizer.
I would be sure to make sure you're not actually burning the cartridge either. I had accidentally done that one before. the 510 attys get really hot and I puffed so many times consecutively that it started to melt.
Also, some e-liquid just doesn't work as well as others and can clog and mess up attys or give off a reallly bad taste.

Sorry but I got to think 'user error'. Too many others have not had those problems. I change out atty's every two days - soak in Everclear in a shallow bowl that completely covers them for a few hours - blow them out, sit on a towel, blow them out again and put one drop of juice on the bridge and put them in a zip lock until the next rotation. The Everclear gets yellowish and sticky so something's coming out of that atty's. Haven't lost one yet and no bad taste.

Think I found the problem. Dissected one of the atty's to find fibers hanging from the top of the bridge and the bottom was burnt going into the coil. Now granted the coil was a little gunked up, but it still appeared to be able to work ok.

I checked my other atty's and sure enough they've got fibers hanging from the top of the bridge, underneath can't see them unless you use a paperclip or tweezers to get them out from underneath. I ripped these fibers out of 1 of the atty's, and viola, the taste is good again!!!

Here's a picture to try and show what I'm talking about:

I had the same thing happen with my e pipe and mini pipe...But it was only after I had been vaping menthol...A putrid (rotten orange) taste and smell that would not go away until I soaked them...Hasnt happened since with other liquids...Just menthol...For some reason when you mix menthol with certain flavors, I think it sours them or something...

I've had mine for a month now. I've got 14 attys and am using only two. I did get bad taste at first. I keep my carts wet always, topping off often.
After awhile the bad taste should go away. Never let the atty dry out.
I clean the attys by soaking in alcohol. Also blowing out the atomizer once in a while helps.

Yes this.... :thumb:
Same issue, same results..
Also pulled the wick stuff out with tweezers and it was indeed what was stinking it up, and was after using menthol.. Yup yup... That's the ticket..

Had the same problem. Removed the fibers from 1.. got rid of bad taste, bud no vapor..
I've tried 4 510 attys with no luck.. I just ordered my first Dura atty from Janty...I hope it works caus everything else about the 510 is awesome
Do you recall if you had been using menthol in it sometime before it went nasty?

Those fibers are esential for the atomizer to work well. The burning smell you have experienced was comming from these fibers running dry and being cooked by the atomizer. If you only drip then you will have no problem. But without those fibers your carts will not wick properly.

Guys, the burning taste is a warning.

Stop and top off as soon as you smell the burning.
