Just got a call from my CC company asking about a CC charge. someone tried to use my card to make a $9.40 charge to a hotel. The lady told me this is how it starts, the person tries to make a small charge to see if it goes through then once it does they make a large purchase. This CC was only used twice since ordering a bunch of e-cig supplies, both charges were at local businesses which I have dealt with many times before so i trust them. to everyone out there i suggest getting one of the rechargeable visa cards for your online e-cig shopping.

I keep telling people that, a reloadable prepaid credit card is a must for online shopping, you load the money you plan to spend and then it sits empty until you go to load it again.

A couple of weeks ago my Google wallet got hacked, I had 1 credit card in my Google wallet, guess which one it was? $10 charge DENIED hahahahaha you can try all you want but you ain't getting nothing out of it lol.

Up until now i have never had a problem and i do a LOT of my shopping online. Matter of fact the last 3 years of xmas shopping was done online, not one problem. This is why i used my CC instead of my debit card linked to my bank account. I did goof up and use my debit card on one purchase because i wasnt paying attention so now i will have to keep an eye on my bank account as well for a while. Took almost 3 months for them to try my CC, so i will have to watch my bank statements. Just what i need, something else to have to watch.

I used to never have an issue with cc theft. Over the last 2 years though I've had mine stolen 3 times. Mine were usually overseas people, one bought a train ticket and some stuff online, another donated to the Red Cross lol, kindof funny but so hectic not having the debit card :) Don't remember the last one. Just funny talking to the Fraud Dept. "Sir, we see a charge for a ____in Sweden, did you make this purchase?" "No, but I wish I was there to have made that purchase." Have to watch out for gas pump card readers, and on occasion store readers get tampered with (just happened to Michaels not too long ago). May be tempted to get a rechargeable card though.

Actually, Discover has been pretty vigilant. I've had my credit card reissued a couple times because they thought something was going on. One time I charged plane tickets from different places for a family reunion and they were on the phone to me within 30 minutes. I just told them it was legit. No problem. They are pretty good at catching it.

My CC company called me this week to ask me if I was trying to buy something with mine so they canceled my card and are sending me a new one. First time for me and I use mine online for everything. No telling where they got the number probably not a e-cig supplier though. They wanted to know if I wanted to press charges so they must have caught the person.

in the last year i have only used this CC for 2 meals and the rest was from e-cig sellers. it has to be from one of the e-cig dealers. i know there are several reports going around about it happening but i dont think anyone has narrowed it down to the exact dealer.

It's not because of the vendor, it's the company that they use that processes the card orders (many of them use the same one). The vendor doesn't get to see enough of your information for this to happen on their end.

I buy a lot online and have had my number stolen after purchasing e-cig stuff. I used a Capital One card the time it happened and all it took was one phone call (with their fraud department which wasn't outsourced) for everything to get sorted out once I noticed the fraudulent charges on my account.

IMO, it's the nature of the beast when dealing with smaller companies online. That's not to say that it can't happen with the big retailers either. I would never use a debit card to make any online purchase.

I had my Discover card number stolen last week. I was trying to make a purchase and the card was denied so I tried to check the card online but it told me to call customer service. When I called they told me someone had purchased a computer from Dell and a camera from another place. They had shut the card down till I called. I had only used this card for e-cig online purchases with 3 different vendors. I emailed the 3 vendors and 2 of them were very nice about getting back to me and explaining how they handle their credit card purchases. The other one was someone I had only dealt with once and their email was very evasive to say the least so I have to assume that is probably where the problem occurred. Discover was very good to deal with.

You can do "virtual" card numbers with Discover. It's a CC number that is only good for 90 days and you can make a new one for each purchase (or use one number for x vendor so you know where the problem came from if one arises). I use it most of the time when I use mine for stuff online. If you don't use it it's worth checking out.
