He called me Thursday because he couldn't breath. I am the go to person for info on that because I have asthma. However when he described his symptoms it seemed worse then just asthma. I could hear his labored breathing over the phone. I told him he should go to the hospital asap. I hear him light up a smoke.... :(. He told me he was thinking about going to bed and seeing if it was better in the morning. THANK GOD he didn't. He walked to the hospital! Its been about a week (just under) and he is still in the hospital. He really really wanted a smoke that first day. I drove about 8 hours to go and be with him. I gave him a hit on my pv. which did not upset his lungs at all. it was stealth, I don't think the hospital would have approved. He is doing a lot better now. And he says he is not going to smoke anymore. If he gets a bad craving he will just get an e-cig instead.

The doctors say that if you are a thin/ skinny person collapsed lungs are quite common. ??? I have never heard of this. 2 good things came of it. 1 my brother is quitting smoking for good. 2 I am moving back to LA. All of my family lives there. And I am VERY close to all of them. I can't believe it took me so long and so much to realize just how much I miss them. Life is short, so live it near to everyone you love most.

Sorry to hear about your brother. The medical term for what happened to him is spontaneous pneumothorax. It is typically seen in tall, thin individuals (more commonly in males) and incidence is increased in smokers, as well as those with conditions such as asthma, COPD, CF, etc. I hope and pray that he's doing better now.

Hope that your brother gets better and sorry to hear about the news. It's probably best that you move back to LA to be there for your family and friends. Never heard that skinny people have a much bigger chance of having a collapsed lung neither. Don't know why that would have anything to do with it. Hope that he transitions to vaping soon. He shouldn't be smoking anymore and you might wanna have him check out the ECF sometimes.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. My brother is quite old school, I will try to get him on EFC but he hates the internet. So we shall see. Everyone else in my family is now switched over to the e-cig. So he has a great support group regardless. :)

Yes, that sounds like pneumothorax - had it myself. Scary & painful, but rarely fatal.
I wish him a speedy recovery.

Wow! I am sorry you had to deal with this too. How long did it take for you to recover?
