Hi everybody

I've been lurking on this amazing forum for a couple of days and I'd like to say thanks to all of you very informed and informative posters.

A week ago I'd never heard of e-smoking, spotted the Gamucci on iwantoneofthose.com and fairly quickly washed up here. I have to say the range of devices and suppliers is bewildering AND bewitching (iwantallofthose!)

Bit about me: I live in the UK, smoker for 25 years, about a pack a day right now, and have failed to give up more times than I can count (made two years once, but got nailed by 'the dreadful, patient persistence of addiction'). Never tried patches or gum as i was fairly sure nothing could replace the instant hit you get from the demon weed.

These devices seem to be the answer.

My immediate impression is that I'll get on much better with mini-cigarettes than pen-types. I'm the sort of guy that looks for what's missing in a replicated experience rather than what's present, so I think a cigarette-like device will suit me. I also think I'd be self-conscious puffing on a pen in public. Never been a cigar or pipe smoker so I'm fairly indifferent to those designs (until I'm out of cigs - then I'll smoke rope if that's all there is).

I'm hoping that, like some people on the forum, I'll be able to kick the weed completely. My only anxiety is that I won't like the taste of the cartridges - I've been with the same brand for most of the time I've been smoking and other brands make me a bit twitchy (but see rope comment above!). Marlboro is the only brand I've ever turned down when I'm out, but it also seems the easiest to replicate, given it's unique toasty taste.

Anyway, I couldn't choose between several of the highly-praised devices, so I took the plunge and ordered four, as below:

njoy cigarette style starter kit (white)

Sedansa Nano SC500 v2

Janty Kissbox Yentl

Janty Kissbox Classic

I intend to use the cigarette-style devices on my travels, and I reckon the Janty Classic will be permanently hooked up to my PC. I'm very interested in the progress of this new technology and feel that I'm going to be a regular purchaser of new devices as they become available. I'll feedback my experiences to the forum.

One final observation - I ended up ordering the njoy from the American site because, even with the $50.00 shipping fee, it came up £45 cheaper than the European site. This is probably because sterling has dived against the euro, but not against the dollar (at the moment). I have no idea whether this will hang up in customs or if I'll have to pay extra tax on it (never been the case in several years of buying stuff online from all over the world, but this kit is entirely outside my experience).

I'm very optimistic about this development, and given the body of opinion here, right to be so.

Thanks for reading and keep up the good work - I can't think when last I stumbled across so useful an online resource.

Wow - you definately have been doing your homework. You started out with the best of the best.

Welcome aboard and any questions you have, please feel free to post, everyone is wonderful in helping each other out. Remember, e-smoking is not like smoking a regular cigarette - it does take some time to get use to. However, the new KISS Classic comes awfully close to the real thing, IMO.

The e-cig has no "done" button so you will find yourself constantly smoking these if you don't pay attention. I would start off using medium or even low so you do not accidently overdose from the nicotine.

Hi Rachel

Thanks for the welcome. I've been thinking about how to set a limit on the hit so I don't go all cross-eyed (never counted the puffs in a cigarette before). My cunning plan at the moment is to puff away in the company of non-smokers and sort of count on their disapproval to shame me into stopping after a reasonable time. However, after years of having to skulk outside for a smoke, I do think I may get a bit evangelical about the whole thing and blow constant smoke rings in a (hopefully) raffish manner. I've ordered mainly medium cartridges and a few zero ones - most of my trouble with failed quitting attempts was I really missed the physical business of smoking so I think I'll get quite a lot of use out of zero-nic cartridges.

The Janty's do look amazing, don't they? I bagged the Classic because of the range of flavours available in pen-type e-cigs. I have very high hopes for flavoured cartridges. I'm hoping they'll be different enough from tobacco cigarettes that when I suffer the inevitable slip the real thing will taste disgusting!

The best thing to do right now is to switch to a brand you don't like...
Getting past perceived enjoyment of smoking is the first step for you,
and then you can attack the physical motion part of your habit.

Remember that you don't enjoy smoking cigarettes..
You only think that you do because they have you in a state of perpetual withdrawl.
Look at people smoking, some time.
They do not look happy, because they're not!

Are you twos referring to my post?
I actually am a smoker.
I've cut down, though.

PS: I have not read any of the books you're blathering about

i had a chap tell me today i should stop completely.. he is a nice chap.. he said its just a placebo effect.. i said dont be silly chemicals do have a real effect.. he didnt seem convinced..

anyways i said do you drink.. he said yes in an "of course" kinda way.. i said well there you go then chemicals make you happy..

he then tried to convince me he only drank cos of the social aspect.. i said yes but why alcohol.. he quite clearly hadnt given the matter any thought..

me.. i aint addicted to drink.. but i know it alters my mind state.. which is why i sometimes do it.. i dont kid myself its only a placebo effect.. the effect is real..

i dont look happy.. probably cos i aint.. to me anyone that is given the current state of the world has to be either on a different drug than i am or pretty stupid.. he he he he

trog

ps.. nicotine helps keep me sane.. it also makes me more tolerant of the idiots i am surrounded by.. :D

Sorry I dropped the thread, guys, I didn't know that this was VB .. so I never searched for threads with posts from me until just now.. and I had never seen the replies

I wasn't trying to be some internet shrink... sorry if it came off that way.. but the guy obviously wants to escape tobacco.. like I do. I understand that many of you enjoy and just love nicotine and your minds won't like anyone who speaks against it, but, I think that we all understand the harm combusted tobacco causes.

I don't mean to be extremist and I'm not anti-smoker, but I've watched several people die before me thanks to cigarettes.. And I was on that same road, myself, till I discovered vaping!!

I agree with you that nicotine doesn't have just some "placebo" effect. Its effect is very real. However, rather than relieving stress, nicotine keeps you in a constant state of withdrawl. Stressful situations make you lose nicotine and experience withdrawl very quickly. Then the nicotine "relieves the stress" by relieving its own withdrawl symptoms.

Nicotine is a big shell game!!

My goal with electronic smoking is to not be dependent on nicotine *at all* and truly SMOKE FOR FLAVOR... Now that would be something 99% of everyone can't do.. That is the best thing about vaping. You CAN vape for taste.

You can't smoke a cigarette for taste!! They taste awful, and 90% of tobacco users are feeding an addiction rather than smoking merely for their pleasure.
