Hello all. Reformed smoker of 25 years and been happily vaping for the last 3 + years. Started out like everyone else on the vape pens and slowly went to larger tanks and mods as I progressed. I never thought I would build my own coils, but have been doing so for over a year now and I found that this has become quite the hobby. After quitting smoking I started out at 28 MG of nicotine and worked my way down to 3MG in short order. I have tried to switch to 0MG but started craving a cigarette. Curious to know if anyone else has been able to get to 0 - and if so - did you stop vaping all together?

I enjoy the vape culture and try to stop in vape shops wherever I am in the country. Living in PA I am not thrilled about the 40% tax increase on juice and have been considering making my own but have yet to take that leap.

Anyway - I signed up on this site a couple of years ago and am just getting active now. Good to see such a large community on the forums.

Congratulations !

You should be proud, it is an odd venture, from simply lighting up a roll of " stuff " stuffed into a piece of paper to working for your nic.

Im sure you have all sorts of experience and lessons to share with others taking the " exit " from cigarettes.

DIY liquid is as complicated or easy as you decide to make it.

Pick a flavor, go with simple to start with, I started with plain mint and went from there.

Enjoy

Welcome. Glad you're here. :)

As was mentioned, DIY is what you want to do with it.

Lot's of recipes here. E-Liquid Recipes

Before I got in to NET's, I made several in this thread (with good success). You'll need to do a quick scroll through, but they're there. Pure Vapes has 3ml FlavourArt flavorings

have been considering making my own but have yet to take that leap.
The most fool proof way to start mixing is by diluting a commercial premix you already like. Mix up the same percents of PG/VG/nic (unflavored) and mix it equal parts pre mix and DIY. Give yourself time to get used to the more muted flavor and you might discover you like it better than the full flavor mix. I use an all in ono flavoring at 1% and it's fine. What's really fine is cost of ingredients is 1.1 cents per ml and $25 a year for my daily 7 ml's.

I'm at zero nic and have no wish to return to smoking or adding nic to my DIY mixes. I stopped gradually. What I did was mix several bottles of the same recipe some with 3 mg nic and some without. I found that I could not tell the difference other than the nic (some mixes) could be tasted in the mix. I discovered that the taste of the nic detracted from the overall mix taste.

When one state can get away with 40% tax increase on juice, all other states will fall in step. This may explain that the DIY flavors are now becoming more available and at lower costs.

Personally, my daughter and I have not, at least so far, planned to go to 0 nic, or to stop vaping. We quit smoking, cold turkey, around 11 years ago. It was hard, and neither of us really wanted to quit, but we could not afford to keep smoking. Around 5 years ago, stress and cravings were really tempting us to resume smoking. Enter vaping. Enter no more cravings. Stress is still there, but more manageable. My late mother had Alzheimer's, and there has been some research on nicotine and Alzheimer's. My grandson is on the autism spectrum, currently being treated for bi-polar. I will stick with my 6 to 12 mg nicotine (I am a tootle puffer) until I see something definite and scientifically proven to show that nicotine adversely affects Alzheimer's or hastens the symptoms and deterioration. I need all my faculties at full force (or as much as they can be at age 68) to deal with the grandson while my daughter is at work or trying to have a social life.

Good luck. I think that, for me, even if I did go to 0 nic, I would probably continue to vape for the hand to mouth action.

I couldn’t imagine a 40% tax on liquid. What a burden. I was vaping for about 2 weeks when I found out I could make it myself for pennies on the dollar and immediately ordered what I needed to start. Yes, it was a higher cost up front but now I spend very little to vape. There’s no way I would have saved any money buying commercial liquids! Now I pick up a few bottles of flavors each month to satisfy my need for vapemail and spend very little on liquid overall.
