What about the "smoke"?

Once again I start with an apology. As much as I search and read I'm not finding a straight out answer to something that may just be taken for granted by those who have already used Ecigs.

What about the "smoke"? I know from reading it's vapor and not smoke. But I've got a couple silly questions that may make me sound like an imbecile.

In a room (large or small) or in my vehicle, what lingering odors are left behind with using these? So as not to offend any non-smoker's sensibilities I sometimes have enough air freshening products in my truck that Border Patrol would think I'm trying to smuggle a bale of ......... from one place to another.

Would say a menthol tobacco cartridge make a room or vehicle smell like I've made it a practice for years of sticking chewed gum under my seats?

Does the vapor cloud dissipate almost immediately or will an enclosed small room, my office or vehicle seem like you've stepped into a tropical, misty rain forest.

Inane and basic questions but I just haven't read anywhere about the actual cloud and / or odor resulting from using Ecigs.

Thank you all once more for indulging me with a couple more questions.

The vapor will linger for a few seconds, but to create a rainforest effect, I think you would need a lot more than one PV. The scent can linger a little while, depending on what juice you are vaping. I have been on a big blueberry juice kick, and my kids can always smell it after I have been in a room. Other juices haven't had scents that stick as much as this blueberry, but I think that all depends on the juice. All in all, you are infusing the area you are in with a mist of scented vapor, so I compare it to spraying a can of air freshener. You can see stuff in the air, but only for a short short time, and you can smell the flavor, but not for an extended period of time. This is all in my experience. Different juices will act differently in this aspect.

Hi, and welcome to ECF :)

I still live with two chainsmokers, and I can definitely say that their smoke hangs in the air far longer than my vape clouds do. I'm able to vape while I drive and leave all the windows up (which is lovely now that it's winter!).

The lingering smell largely depends on what flavor you're vaping, at least what I've experienced firsthand. I don't notice anything when I vape Menthol, but if I vape French Toast or Waffles in my office all day long, a faint aroma of maple syrup is there to greet me the next morning. :)

And if you want to prevent clouds altogether, then just hold the vape in your lungs a bit longer (even with an extra inhale of air) before you exhale, also called 'stealth vaping'. Little to nothing is visible...which can come in handy in certain public situations. :D

Hey, Rxgy
I like to think of the odor in the air as being about the same as someone chewing gum. If you are close enough you can smell it, but you can't smell it from a distance. :) The vapor doesn't hang around very long either. It will hang in the air longer if it is a cool damp place. You can really tell the difference this winter when you first get in the car, the vapor hangs on forever, :)but after the defrost is on and draws the moisture out of the air, the vapor goes away pretty fast. :?: The best way to find out is to try it for yourself ( only if you want to):2cool::vapor:

Some of my juices produce more vapor than others (mostly due to the PG/VG mix). When my husband and I are both happily vaping away, we'll notice a little cloud form overhead, but it dissipates very quickly. As far as the scent left behind, my daughter can usually walk in the room and identify which juice I've been vaping on. But as she and my mother-in-law have said, the scents are not unpleasant at all (they both HATED the smell of cigarettes). What's even cooler is that I'm finally beginning to smell them too - some *are* pretty nice! LOL

One of my juices is a menthol-ish flavor (Nuport) and it does create a minty scent in the air, but again - it dissipates quickly (umm, when I'm not chain-vaping, LOL).

Btw, don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have - the only "stupid" question is the one that goes unasked. There are a lot of us here that are new to all of this, and we've all had a few questions we might have felt silly asking. So don't be shy - ask away!

Welcome to ECF.

It's just vapor. Smoke is the product of burning substances such as tobacco, food, oil, dry shrubbery,, tires, etc. We're not heating anything enough to the point of creating a smoldering, carcinogenic effect. Vaporizing is just that; warming up the [flavored] liquid, with or without nicotine, to the point of creating a vapor.

You can produce enough vapor to fill a room and/or car, but it's not so heavy that it will linger for a long time. The smell will usually be whatever flavor you're vaping at the time. Whenever I vape, it faintly smells like peaches, blueberry, or whatever fruit flavor I'm using. Plus the smell doesn't really stay too long.

Border patrol would have to be ...... to think that you're smoking something illegal, especially since vapor doesn't smell anything like that. That being said, the scent of what you're vaping can stay in the air for a few minutes or more depending on how much you vape it. It's not going to offend the non-smokers unless they just really hate the smell of coconut or strawberry or caramel or whatever. Now that the weather here has turned cold my windows fog up more, so I crack the window just a tiny bit and that takes care of it.

Now, WomanOf Heart, how would you know exactly what "that" smells like?:2cool::vapor:

My wife has a very good sense of smell. I have been vaping for 3 weeks at least and she as of yet, has not said a word about "smelling" anything. I started out wanting to see if she would notice and mention something, since I know how easily she picks up odors. I admit, I find it a bit strange that she hasn't smelled anything, but she hasn't said a word about it. I vape all day long while I'm home. She comes home from work and doesn't notice anything.
Who knows? But if there was any objectionable smell or odor, she would probably detect it.

When I first got my PV and started vaping in the house (I was always an outside smoker) my gf kept ribbing me about suddenly "smoking in the house".

At the time I thought she was just mocking me for being lazy, or was worried that I'd want to smoke analogs in the house if I fell off the wagon. After all, the vapor is minimal, and to my nose the tobacco carts I started with left very little smell in the air.

Now that I can smell again I see that she may have been picking up a tobacco smell that I was missing. Not strong enough to demand that I go back outside, but enough to notice a smell where there wasn't one before. The difference being that she would only have smelled it while I was vaping, and not as a lingering funk in the air/my clothes for hours afterwards like with cigarette smoke.

Now that I can taste again I'm finding the flavour of the tobacco carts nasty. I've moved on to Cinnamon and Mocha etc. She doesn't notice the coffee flavour (my office always smells of coffee), but she loves the cinnamon and will come in and visit me to sniff it.

Vaping in the car with the windows up has been a luxury that didn't even occur to me before. The other day, I got in the car, put the e-cig in my mouth, and from years of habit, cracked the window before I realized I didn't have to. I did it at least four more times before I got home (every time I vaped).
