WHAT AM I DOING WRONG, Sub tank hate, TFV8+

Ok, so i'm fairly new to vaping but i also did a bit of reading before diving in.

I have a SMOK Alien 220w mod and an Aspire Nautilus tank.

Beautiful! Nice amount of vapour, smooth draw, good taste.
Love it.

But i also wanted to try some other tanks.
I knew from the pretty generic tank that came with the SMOK Alien that a good tank makes all the difference. So i decided to buy a couple of mid range but well branded tanks.
I went with a SMOK TFV8 Big Baby, KangerTech Subtank Mini-C and a Joyetech Delta 2.
The two sub tanks with the anticipation of getting some huge clouds, and the Delta because it looked good and was on sale =)

BUT, both the sub tanks are shocking! I fill them correctly, allow the liquid to seep for a while, but when i go to have a puff both tanks hiss, spit, crackle and i end up with a mouth full of juice! Im not overfilling them.
I've tried changing the wattage, changing the temp, adjusting the airflow, but nothing makes these tanks pull smoothly.

Is it me? Is there some fundamental thing that im missing? Or are these tanks pretty useless?
The Delta is ok, not the best, but i only get the occasional little crackle when firing it. For the $15 i got it for i'll accept that.

Any others opinion of these sub tanks greatly appreciated, and any general advice well received.

Note wattage, nicotine level and resistance and inhalation force and speed.


If you plan to "smoke" your vape; MTL - smooth relaxed inhale, then you have chosen the incorrect tanks. (imo)

Take a peek at Joyetech CL-R coils and the tanks that use them.

I watched some video reviews, especially on the baby beast, which is what helped make my decision. And I tried the wattages they were demonstrating with. What's the benefit of those coils you mention? From what I can figure they just seem to be a rebuildable coil. I'm happy with my nautilus for a smoking alternative and was looking at sub tanks for ridiculous clouds. Nicotine level wouldn't effect the crackling I'm getting would it?

From 40 to 60 watts seemed the most common on the baby beast, but I tried from 10 to 80 watts. No, never tried the X4, more info please? And do coils make that much of a difference when you're dealing with such a customisable mod? I can understand if you've a fixed wattage or voltage mod then finding the most suitable coils for those specs, but when you can alter all those settings like you can with the Alien it shouldn't matter should it?

I thought the X4 is coil the big baby comes with.

Back to your issue. Last year I bought my brother a subohm tank and he complained of the same kind of thing. Gurgling, flooding, etc. Took me a while to realise he was trying to mouth-to-lung it. All the leftover vapour was just accumulating in the chamber and condensing back to liquid.

These kind of tanks are for direct lung hits. I think that's the point Izan was trying to make.

If you put the tank on like 60W and the airflow all the way open, and take a slow deep long chug, then all excess liquid should be evenly atomised and once that's cleared up you should not get liquid in your mouth anymore.

The coils make all the difference. While it is true you can adjust the wattage to whatever you want on the mod, your choice is still influenced by the coil you choose. If you took your Nautilus tank with a 1.8 ohm BVC coil and ran 80W through it, the experience would be remarkably unappealing. The power selection you make will depend on the resistance, type of wire, and the airflow through, which not only generates the vapor, but also cools the coil as you apply power and inhale.

With something like the BBB with multiple coil options and configurations, adjusting the power level to get the best performance out of each style is still required.

Wow, I've still so much to learn... So 60w on the BBB should be optimum for a lung puff? My box is at work atm so I'm yet to try
