What am I doing wrong?

I've been vaping a little over a year now, and recently bought a couple of RBAs (2x genesis style, AGA T + and something else). For the life of me I cannot get these to work.

I've tried to build these all several times using a few different methods. So far I've been able to get rid of hot spots, but it still all tastes awful.

I've tried 320 and 400 ss mesh. I've scorched it before I rolled it, and skipped that step and burned it after it was rolled. Also tried burning and quenching in water 3 times, then with pg/vg. I've tried SS mesh with eko wool on top. Just ekowool, just silica wire.

Also I've tried burning the kanthal before wrapping, skipping that step. Wrapped on the wick, and wrapped around a bolt and pulled the wick through.

I've gotten really good at getting the coil to my desired resistance (around 1.5 ohms), but that seems to be the only thing thats working. The best I've been able to manage is maybe 1 hour of vaping off of one of my builds, before it starts tasting burnt or just awful. The one thing I haven't changed is the Kanthal wire I'm using, because I bought 100' of some type that was on Vaporjoes a while back (ebay link iirc).

So please, if anyone has an idea of what I'm doing wrong, please let me know! Further, if you have a way that always works for you, and are willing to share, please help me out. I'm confident this is entirely me doing something wrong and not a problem with any of the products I'm trying to use. I really want to get these things working.

If you've stuck it out this far, thanks for reading!

The AGA T+ is a bit of a pain. It sounds to me like you're having a wicking problem. I use 500 mesh and have had good success. Also, are you leaving the fill hole open or putting the screw back in? Leaving the fill hole open will increase wicking but will be more prone to leaking if it's not standing upright. I like the way genesis atomizers vape but they can be fickle. Don't give up, you will figure out the best method for you over time!

I have been using low voltage, 3 volts on my Sigelei.

As for the fill hole, I've been screwing it back in afterward, maybe I'll try leaving that out today. And for as much as a pain as these are (especially compared to how easy it is to just start up a carto tank and go) I cant imagine so many people would use RBAs if it wasn't worth it in the end.

The other style I have is the Pulse-G, and I've been wanting a Kraken, but I can't justify buying it when I havent had any luck with the other two yet.

Thanks for the responses everyone!
