If your coils are popping immediately, always at the same spot, between the center post and the top coil wrap, I'm thinking you're shorting at the wick. Your top wrap has violated the oxidation layer, and also, the wick is either shorting against the side of the wick hole, or, the wick is touching the bottom of the tank.

Didn't say earlier, but I've wrapped as little as 3 and high as 7 giving from 1.6-4.2, just trying anything I could.

Michael, take some pictures of your AGA-T setup w at least one close up of your coil/wick/posts. I think that will help us better help you.

Guys, yer shorting out against yer wicks. The wick need to be oxidized better/correctly.........plain and simple. Getting the mesh oxidized right is kinda an art and it takes some time to get it figured out but you CAN do it:)

Now, until you can get better at oxidizing the wick give the suggestion that tizz posted a try....here is a link:

Mesh/Cotton hybrid wick Bluegrasslover's method - YouTube

This is awesome, tastes great and makes it a breeze. Warning tho...DO NOT do a dry burn if you do the cotton method!!!! cotton will not scorch or burn as long as it is wet.

Good luck fellers and keep at it.

In the pictures, I notice that the part of the wick that's down inside the tank isn't oxidized, which is fine. But is it at least oxidized through the wick hole?

Yes.. It is oxidized (from silver to brownish color) i tried it for so many times now but its still not working.. i tried the drillbit method and wires are glowing perfectly when no mesh attached but when i insert the oxidized mesh the wires between positive post and mesh pops-up again :(

im actually tired of this.. so what i did is just a silica build which is fine for me.. ill make some dual coil silica build soon :)

try to get a ceramic cup installed on the top end of the postive pole so when you tightened the coil around it, it won't shimmy to the side and cause a short... also make sure that you leave a lil space between the wick and the positive pole....hope this helps members that are having the same problems...
