Hi first I pull the vapor into my mouth then I inhale. Many factors can be causing your reaction. Example, possibly too high of PG content for you. You can expirement and up the VG while you lower your PG and see if that helps. Also your nicotine level may be too strong for you. You can try lowering it to see if that helps. Also it could be your atomizer. What kind are you using? Or it could even be what your vaping from. You can first try the small steps like taking the vapor into your mouth first, then inhale. See if that helps. If not do some expirements an try changing pg levels.continue to expirement with what I've mentioned above and see if any changes help you out. Also remember to drink plenty of water. Best wishes

Using an e-cigarette is not exactly like a tobacco cigarette. Vapor is different from smoke. Remember, you are no longer smoking....but "vaping".

The majority of nicotine in vapor is absorbed in the throat, mouth, and nasal passages...not in the lungs. Different size molecules..vapor and smoke. Therefore, its not entirely necessary to inhale the vapor into the lungs for nicotine absorbtion...it can be used like a cigar or pipe smoker uses tobacco by not inhaling.

However, most of us desire the complete cigarette experience of inhaling into the lungs. Proper technique would be to imagine sucking on a straw in a milkshake. Draw in in a slow, gentle, longer draw. Use your cheek muscles to draw a mouthful of vapor into your mouth, and hold it there for a second or two. This allows for maximum absorbtion of the nicotine, and allows for the vapor to cool a bit.

Then inhale a small amount (at least initially) of vapor into your lungs. Exhale through both your mouth and nose. Your sense of smell assists your sense of taste to perceive flavors. Remember when you have a cold and your nose is congested, and you can't taste your food? This shows how important sense of smell is to the sense of taste.

When you first began smoking tobacco and inhaling smoke, I'm certain that you must have coughed. It's a natural response of the body. The same holds true with vapor. It will take a short time to adapt to vapor like you did with cigarette smoke.

May I ask how many cigarettes you smoked daily, and what nicotine strength e-liquid you have? It's certainly possible that the nicotine concentration in your e-liquid is too high for your needs.

I've found that lowering the PG % in my liquid and taking the vapor into my mouth, then slowly inhaling allows me to not choke. Since I vape such a high nicotine content (24/mg) I find the vape experience to be the best as if I was smoking a traditional cigar (puff and not inhale). I like making large plums and the taste of vape. Coughing kills the experience for me, so I just smoke as if I was smoking a nice cigar.

It seems like a large expense of vaping can be finding your sweet spot (along with a flavor you enjoy) and the most aggravating part of vaping, but once you nail it, it can be a great experience.

I can't seem to inhale off my e cig without choking. It's not like an analog to me. Do I inhale or just hold it in my mouth? Any tips on how to vape correctly?

There's 2 methods to inhale:
- Mouth to lung
- Direct lung hit
* These 2 techniques are all subjective to each user.

When you mention ecig, is it a cig-a-like type that you are using or is it bulkier and larger than a pen?

If you are using a APV (advance personal vaporizer)/Regulated mod or even a Mechanical mod (powered solely by the battery) with a RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer)/ RBA (ReBuildable Atomizer)/ RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomizer) there's factors at play:
-Sensitivity to PG, VG, or other ingredients of the e-juice
-Wicking issues (Not enough material to make the right contact with the coil. Its gives a metallic taste which irritates the throat and is very unpleasant when inhaled)
-Taking dry hits
-High nicotine content (if you're using a RDA or the like, you might want to drop your nicotine level to either a 3-6. Everyone is different and experimenting is your friend)

This^^

When I first switched, it took some getting used to - vapor seemed way harsher than my Camel Menthols. I took lighter/softer drags and I got used to the vapor slowly.

So far I've used 3 different devices and I've had to change the way I inhale depending on the device. For regular Blus type e-cigs I have to inhale it fairly hard with my lungs. For what I believe is called an E-go style vaping pen, I would also inhale with my lungs but not as hard. At the moment I'm borrowing a White Rhino which appears to be somewhere in between a Blu style e-cig and the E-go style. This thing can be really harsh if I lung it, but if I draw the vapor in with my mouth and then inhale, it's pretty nice and not harsh at all.

It took me a little while to figure it out also.. I think I vape more like a pipe smoker. Inhale to mouth then inhale to lung. But every once in awhile I'll I do a direct lung hit. From what I can tell the draw on the tank seems to make a difference also. I wish more shops would let you try different tanks also, so I could get a feel for the tank.

Choking and coughing has always been something caused by the atomizer, the voltage, or the juice and the nic content for me. Sometimes, I'll notice that there's a "green" or harsh taste in my vapor and that's frequently cured by raising the voltage a bit. I"m not normally a high voltage vaper and I tend to vape at 6 or 7 watts.

Lately, I've experienced some of what you are talking about and found that raising the voltage on my 2 ohm Kayfun coil from 3.4v to 4.5v smoothed out the vapor and made it all smooth and tasty.

List your hardware and your juice and we may be able to give you some information. As others have said, PG may irritate and VG may be smoother, but can cause some sensations of lung heaviness in some. Most find a mix of the two to be better for them. We also need to know that nic level you are vaping.
