Yea. I'm surprised I didn't notice how harsh it was at the shop when I tried it. will try the 3.0 single carto;

If you look at the link in the Power Chart that I posted (I edited my post), you'll need a 5 ohm single cart. That's a specialty item that not all vendors will carry, but since that vendor is selling 6 volt devices, he should have them.

Yea, that power chart is very helpful. But is it accurate when you take into account double and single coil cartomizers? I just read that using a double coil will lower the watts.

A dual coil 1.5 ohm cartomizer has two 3.0 ohm atomizers in them. The vaping effect is still 1.5 ohms. If you test out that 1.5 ohm cart on an atomizer meter, it will read out as 1.5 ohm.

I say the chart applies to both single and dual coils. Prove me wrong by linking the reference.

I've wondered about this but never really figured it out as I don't use dual coil cartos.

I have no proof for this, but for what it's worth, here's what makes sense to me. Consider a 4 wrap coil that measures 3 ohms. Now twice the length of resistance wire in one coil (with more wraps) will measure half the resistance, or 1.5 ohms. Split that 1.5 ohm coil into two coils and you have two 3 ohm, 4 wrap coils in series measuring 1.5 ohms together. I think you should get more or less the same vape from a single coil 1.5 ohm carto as a dual coil 1.5 ohm carto so I agree with Baditude.

Most of the difference between the two will be from differing coil surface area and wicking issues. I believe two coils will be harder to keep properly wet than one which is why I've stuck with singles. But again, that's my opinion only. I've got no proof to back that up either :w00t:.

i agree the voltage is too high vs the resistance being to low for a newer vaper. personally i cant vape that all day long. leads me to think that dual coil carto isnt being fed well. 17+ watts will eat juice fast and dry out that carto. try talking to the shop about different battery configurations. 18650 and single coil lr cartos

This is my first post on the E-Cig forum! happy to have found this place.

I decided to give vaping a try about a week ago. I started with the blu e cig original starter kit. After vaping with the blu e cigs for a couple days, I decided I needed to have on of the bigger devices.

i went to my local shop in Anoka, MN and bought this VMX 6-volt. (pictured below, and linked for better image). The flavor and vapor production is great on the VMX.

However, the 'throat hit' is very rough and unpleasant.

With my blu e cig, I can do slow and deep inhales all day with no problem, but just trying to inhale a little bit off the VMX causes my throat to hurt, and lung pain.

Is it because of the higher voltage? (this device does not have variable voltage); it only works at 6 Volts.

I am making sure to not directly inhale, but hold the vapor in my mouth for a few seconds before the inhale. But it still seems quite painful to inhale. I have no problem doing very deep inhales with the blu's or with analogs..

You made quite a jump from Blu to an advanced system!

I started with Blu and I can tell you they are awful "weak" in comparison to just about anything. I'm not sure I'd jump to 6 volt myself even though I've been at this a bit (not as long as many here but a while now). I see some veteran members talking 3 ohm or higher. I'd definitely try that. I use 3 ohm with a Twist that only goes to 4.8 volts and that's about as high as I want to go right now. In fact, at first 4.8 seemed rather "hot". I stayed at a lower voltage for a while. Still do depending on the juice but have gotten to like the higher end for some. But 6? Oh no. At least not any time soon.

Also, PG is said to do more "throat hit" than VG. You could try some 100% VG like from Johnson Creek. Who, by the way, makes the liquids for Blu. They don't sell the Blu liquids (it's some proprietary deal with Blu) but have a "Red Oak" line that's all VG and yields a similar... call it, "experience" as the Blu flavors.

I haven't found a PG heavy liquid I like myself. 50/50 PG/VG seems as far toward PG as I'm willing to go. But I tend to prefer vapor over throat hit. Even as a smoker I preferred "smooth". Didn't care much for throat hit.

So, I went to another shop, the people there were very nice; they let me try my VMX 6 Volt with some 2.5 and 3.0 Ohm cartos. They tested the Volts at the shop and it read out 6.6 ! I guess the batteries were fully charged. The 2.5 ohm was still a little hot, but the 3.0 was much better.

I realized I needed to guarantee I had a more comfortable vape, so at the shop I picked up a ZMAX v3.

Now I have the hot hot VMX 6 for when I want the hard hit, and the ZMAX for when I want something more adjustable and more gentle, and my blu cigs for when I want to stealth vape.

So I think I'm happy for now, I'm very glad that the higher resistance cartos felt good in my VMX.

so i think i'm happy for now :)

It may be the juice. Out of all that I have, there is one that is hard to inhale no matter what set up I use. Almost like inhaling pure heat. It's a very thick juice that probably has a high concentrate of sweetener in it. It just fries and tastes horrible. No amount of steeping will help it so I mix it with a lighter juice to dilute it to make it bearable.
