What are these new rdas with mini tanks that are not really rtas??

Sounds like you're describing an RDTA. I think the Big Dripper is one you could search for and watch vids on how they work.
Tried a bunch of em. Most have not the greatest coil decks, and the long metal airtube tends to make the vape cool for a dripper.
This one's not that bad:

Well, I haven't found any that I would consider a "high-end" dripper. It's a compromise. Because you can control the amount of juice on the coil, they're easier to get working (without leaking or dry hits) than many RTA's. But their performance just isn't quite the same as a true dripper. I'd rate them in between an RTA and an RDA.
And I forgot about the 3D, which is slightly different; with the 3D the juice is UNDER the head, so it's more like a bottom-feeder. But what a pain in the .... it is to build!!!!
The main thing I hate about tanks is that I like to switch juices often. But the portability factor is definitely a pro with them versus bringing my mech and rda everywhere.
I figured with something like those "hybrids" the tanks are really small and you could switch out more often and rewick more easily than with something like my subtank mini.

Actually, the tanks on most of them aren't particularly small.
However, you might want to try these:

Although these are "coil replaceable" you can rebuild them (similar to building a kanger head, but you have a lot more room to work with).
But notice the long metal uptube - so this isn't a high-performance dripper! For what they are, they work OK, though.

No thanks lol. I just swore I saw some high quality ones in instagram or something and I thought they were the newest thing. Maybe I was just looking at kayfuns.

While I find indoorsmokers entertaining, generally speaking not a good source of info for "next level" vaping. He sticks to stock stuff for beginners.
I guess I'm kind of confused about what your goal is here. Those mini-RDTA's aren't particularly bad quality, it's just that they won't give you true dripper-like performance. About the only one that will is the 3D, but I wouldn't recommend the 3D for rapid flavor-changes.
Perhaps you should look into a Reo or other bottom-feeder?
Nope, you didn't miss it, the RDTA thing just never really caught on big. Most people seem to prefer an RDA or an RTA for specific performance reasons, where as twg has stated the RDTA is just kinda in the middle.
IMO, RDTAs like the big dripper, 3D etc. are great for the first few weeks but the bulkiness (length), coolness of the vape, poorly designed decks and the wear & tear on springs and leaky orings over time is their downfall. Been there and done that

I have both and the RDA are for sitting at home. The RTAs, I use, are a mix of full size and mini/nano. Yes, I do have a few. I seem to get vapor's tongue rather quickly, so I am switching tanks pretty often. To keep them all straight, I made the following so that the bottle sits in the stand just behind the topper. The top row is for up to 15ml bottles and the bottom is for 15ml Glass up to 30ml.
