I've been on the third Jason Bourne book for a week or so. I took a break in the middle for a couple of days to read Ender's Game since I saw an excellent-looking trailer; then to do Halloween stuff and to make a couple of screencasts. I need to get back into it.

I still say you need to read Eragon / the Paolini Inheritance Cycle. I know you're more of a sci-fi fan than fantasy at the moment; but if it helps, there are a couple of vague references to Dr. Who in it (although he's not at all part of the story). Or if you would rather do a single book rather than a series, either Stardust or The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman are enthralling.

Hmmm. How about some non-fiction for a change? Try Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand. It's a very well-written, entertaining and exciting read. Also, Unbroken by Hillenbrand is full of feels.

...I've read Neil Gaiman....

Neil Gaiman, and Alan Moore. Two of the greatest authors in my humble opinion. Remember reading their material when I was still at a young age and even back then, it was obvious that these guys had something going for them. Hell, just the mention of one of their names makes me feel a little nostalgic.

It always a nice feeling to know that the "geekness brotherhood" still lingers around Dave's sub.

I highly, highly recommend Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series, and also Glen Cook's Black Company series. Should also keep you reading for quite awhile.

Just bear in mind that both series are pretty dark and bleak at times. So tread carefully!

I'm kind of over Jason Bourne. I think I'll check out Malazan this evening.

Wow, we are geeks! Alan Moore is a genius and one of the people that made the graphic novel medium worthy to be studied in universities. Erikson's Malazan series is awesome (and incredibly dense and long) and Glen Cook is indeed very, very dark.

I haven't read the Dark Tower series yet, but I hear good things. A few fantasy series I recommend:

Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle
Scott Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora
Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives

These three series have a few things in common: Sharp wit, fast paced plot, plenty of intrigue and action, deep enough to be worth the read.

Funny you should mention that. I just the other day downloaded the second book onto my Kindle. Read the first one a while back and loved it! Eager to dig into book 2, but I'm almost done with the third book of a trilogy right now that I want to finish, first (Brian Ruckley's Godless World trilogy). I'm digging this series, though it's got a lot of epic fantasy cliches going on
