I'm using a Vandy Vape Triple ETA WITH my Ikonn 220w Right now I'm using two 18650 3000mAh batteries. Can I use 4500mAh or should I stay with what I'm doing?
What brand is your 3000mah batteries? Also an 18650 battery that has 4500mah rating is probably grossly overrated and any battery close would not have the amps to run your mod. Stick to batteries from LG, Samsung, Sony, or Sanyo. As important as the brand is where you buy them from Imrbatteries, orbtronic, or illumin are three trusted vendors.

To answer your question, we need to know what manufacturer and model battery your 18650 3000mah batteries are. And we need to know what manufacturer/model the 4500mah battery is.

My guess is that the 4500 mah battery is not the correct chemistry battery. It sounds like an ICR protected battery. You want an unprotected IMR battery.

Your first priority when choosing a battery should be the amp rating, not the mah rating. Not all 18650 batteries are created equal. They all have different amp and mah ratings. Some facts that you may not be aware of:

  • there are no 18650 batteries with a true continuous amp rating over 30A.
  • there are none with a true capacity (mAh) over 3000 mAh.
  • there are none rated at 3000mAh with a true continuous rating over 20A.
  • there are none with 30 amps with more than 1500 mAh capacity.
  • battery company pulse or "max" amp ratings are useless and can't be used to compare batteries between brands or models.
Regulated mods require a minimum amp rating from the battery to perform as expected, depending upon the wattage setting you vape at. The very minimum would be 15 amps continuous discharge rate if you are a low wattage vaper.

Battery Basics for Mods: The Definative Battery Guide for Vaping

Are You Using a Rewrap (Rebranded or Aftermarket) Battery?

    • Learn what a rewrap cell is. If you are using rebranded cells, does that mean it is inferior, poor quality, or even dangerous? Which batteries are suspected to be rebranded batteries?

I think that second bullet point was truncated. There are a lot of 18650’s rated over 3000mAh but none of them can be rated over 10A and many are rated a lot lower than that.

The Samsung 20S, when it shows up in more than samples, might break the fourth bullet point as it could be 30A 2000mAh. Perhaps with Samsung’s conservative ratings it will be rated only 25A though.

Mooch (Who just posted above) has a YouTube channel. If you go watch his videos starting with number one you'll not only be knowledgeable and safe but you'll be a wise consumer as you'll know what battery offers best bang for the buck for the type of vaping you do.

I made the necessary corrections in my blog on batteries. Thank you for pointing out my error. :thumb:
