What can I expect going to 5V?

I've already made my own NicoStick using a 14500 with 510 atty and staying at 3.7 volts. Not only did this mod get me an average of 8 to 9 hours from one battery but also seems to give me a better and more consistent vape.

Then I've been reading about how so many have switched to a 5V mod and wouldn't go back to a 3.7V, so I want to find out for myself what the hype is all about. I just placed an order for all kinds of goodies from Madvapes to make another mod, this one a 5V NicoStick using a 510 atty. Can anyone tell me exactly what I might expect to see or experience with 5V over 3.7V?

More vapor? Better/stronger flavor? I don't want to get my hopes up too high but curious to see what others have to say about it.

Thanks :thumb:

you will get more vapor with a shorter hit for sure. will also be warmer vape. you wont have to suck forever to be satisfied..

flavors vary so cant really tell you for sure. sometimes 3.7 is better on flavor and other times, not.

I use 5 and 3.7. each has its merits. just depends on mood. I wouldnt say now that i wouldnt ever go back. a good 510 on a 3.7 mod is nice at times... :)

good luck on your mod making 5v..

My experience with 3.7v is I would have to drag really hard and long for a good amount of vapor. Seems it takes forever to get the atty hot enough to produce a good throat hit. With 6v, it seems to be too much, and I would get a burnt taste often, plus the fact that you burn out attys real fast.

With 5v, you don't need to draw as hard since the atty heats up fast and I have yet to get any burnt taste. You won't burn out attys as much with 5v, but as with all ecigs, always keep the atty wet. With high voltage mods, let the atty cool down some before taking another hit. I usually draw twice and then let it cool for at least 30 sec.

Hope this helps.

I've built a few 5V mods using Madvapes parts.

Pros: More vapor, bigger throat hit, can take shorter draws, seems to deliver the nicotine to you faster too (at least in my experience).

Cons: Use more e-liquid, you REALLY need to keep the atty wet or you can expect to burn out atty's at about double the rate of 3.7V, running at 5V voids almost all normal atty warranties (unless it's a HV atty, which seems to defeat the purpose of 5V anyway because they are higher ohms).

Advice: Go for it! Just be sure to keep some spare atty's around if you go to 5V, because you will go through them faster if you're using carts and you let it get dry. Also if you're using highly flavored juice, it seems to carbon up the atty's faster than at 3.7V, so cleaning is important too. I've seen atty's go from awesome to mediocre in just 2 or 3 days when running at 5V and they start to suffer from carbon buildup. YMMV depending on what juices you vape.

I use carts at 3.7V, but pretty much just direct drip at 5V so I don't let the atty get too dry.

You can see my units in my signature. I use all 3 daily. I use johnsoncreek juice, PG. All units have 510 attys on them, and I use carts on all, and all wicks are removed before first use as I burn em all. Considering ALL having fresh atties.... The 510 is for original juice. The 3.7 is for chocolate, and the 5v has original, or french vanilla in it depending on day. Im also a chain vapor. I use the 3.7 and the 510 mostly, cause they are pretty close as far as TH and vapor. Only major difference is how long the battery lasts. For someone wanting to just be able to get a strong dose of nic, and clouds of vapor, major TH, then 5v is where its at. 5 hits, and your topped off...and I mean 2-4 second hits of good, warm, cloud of tasty vape. BUT, they burn up atties in a week in my experience. 901 or 510. But analogs never gave the cloud a 5 v does. If your a chain vapor like me,And its your only unit, you GOTTA drop the nic level in half, or youll over due it easy, and why I use all 3..But everyone should have 1 for those times when you just plain need a quick top off of the ol' nic lvl. 5v is the sweet spot, and anytime you would generally feel the need to fire up an analog cause the 510 or 3.7 aint enough, a 5v will do ya right, and right quick. Just watch the drag. A 5 second hit on 5v, especially freshly charged batteries will come dangerously close to blowing the atty, not to mention a good burn of the wick happens in 3-4 seconds if its not almost flooded to start with..But once you get em down, they are a great unit to keep handy. Pm me with any other questions. Hope this helps :)

On a side note...A full cart, on a 510 fresh atty, with wick removed and re wetted properly with juice, will create a NICE vapor pretty darn consistantly, as well as TH. If you can afford it, then by all means pick yourself up a 3.7 and a 5v to tinker with. Im just saying this "wick removal" trick works well to get rid of the burnt flavor before it starts, makes it easier to clean, and makes me a lot happier using the trusty ol' 510's as my all day unit. I say that even having a 3.7 and 5v. They have both now become secondary again to my 510s for all day vaping.

Thanks to all of you with your great replies. I'm obviously now a better-informed modder who will go ahead with this 5V mod to experience the differences that you've all explained in detail so well.

It's not that I'm unhappy with my NicoStick because it has been working flawlessly for me at 3.7 volts, but I want to at least say that I have tried a 5V mod for myself. I'm sensitive to PG so I use up to 100% VG in all my mixes (DIY) and fully understand the meaning of a "well wicked atty" and being good and wet before vaping. I'm not a fan of much more than a light throat hit so this 5V mod may not be my cup of tea, but as The Big Chief mentioned, it just might be good to have one as a part of my arsenal of PV's, there just might be the right times/places when it will be the perfect vaper.

Again Thanks for the replies and I'll post my new 5V NicoStick and thoughts once I get it finished by next week.
