I had 2 Evod coils rebuilt as SC with Silica and 32 Kanthal that never saw more than 4v.

I got a Horrible taste in a tank and my assumption was the Silica scorched even though it's not supposed to.

I cleaned and dry fired them, the Silica looked clean but they tasted nasty all over again.

When I rebuilt them then, I saw the light scorching on the insulator, just lines burned into it from the coil legs. I washed all the scorch off and rebuilt them. Haven't used them yet, I hope they'll be ok.

[EDIT] The coils are around 2 ohm and I tested them with a multi meter when rebuilding.

Dry burning does sometimes scorch the insulator.

I am careful to only short burst on the dry burns.
Both these tanks were just fine until near the end when for some reason I guess the insulator scorched.
These coils tasted fine just after a dry burn.

Yes, it is 4 strand. I bought the single 3mm strand too but I prefer the 4 strand of 1mm. Wicks really well with both my 50/50 and 60pg/40vg. The premade sure make life easier. I buy the 1.8 but you can also get them at other ohms.

I use around 1.8's too. A member gave me a handful of about 2.4s wound with about 2mm Silica, I use
that And some hand wound on 3mm. A couple wraps Off of the 2.4s and they are the 1.8s I usually use.

Are you using any leftover trim for flavor wicks?

The youtube and another member who does it the 3mm way told me it isn't necessary, but I tried it both
ways and I get less splash back with a few strands of flavor wick.

I don't add flavor wicks to my single coil heads but do when I rebuild my double coil heads. I lay 2 strands in there. then install the coil. Dry burn it to remove/burn off anything that might be on the wick/wire. Then add 2 strands on top of the coil. install the chimney and the seal. Wicks perfectly for me and so far no leaks at all.
