What causes cartomizers to go bad?

I've been using standard Boge 510 LR cartos for the past few months and much like others on ECF I always manage to get a few that are duds. Sometimes I put them on my PV and they are simply DOA. No voltage reading. Sometimes I fill them up using the condom method and I get a few good puffs then BAM... TASTES LIKE BURNING... (Ralph)

After all the reading I've done, it seems like they come like this from the factory. Sometimes you just get a lemon. I just want to be sure I'm not doing anything to cause them to die on me. I was down to my last 2 cartos and they were both lemons. So it has been a sad night. Switched to a clearo for the time being and all is well.

When using my carto+tank method with low resistance cartos, I keep my voltage at about 3V to 3.1V at the most. My PV only goes as low as 3V. I wonder if my PV simply applies more voltage then it says it produces which causes the cartos just to short-out. My PV is called a 'wraith' and it's a generic, rebranded, variable voltage mod.

Either way it's hit or miss. So I basically have a two questions. Could anything I'm doing be causing these cartos to break? Or are there any cartos that just work right out of the box without any problems?

Thanks for your advice as usual ECF. Hope you're all enjoying the new year so far.

Once I punch my hole I add my ejuice and do not add any in the carto from the top. It keep the intergrity of the filler. If you add more juice to the carto plus the ejuice pulling in from the hole, it will flood and collapse the filler from being flooded. Mine works for at least a month with no problem because the filler stays intacted like knew. It never wears out. The hole in the tank just pulls just enough to heat the coil inside and you get a full tasty vape with a good airflow. I have done it the other way where you add the extra drops in once you have your tank ready but it just decreases the longevity of the filler and it will collapse. Just do a couple of light dry pulls after you let it sit for a few minutes and let the air bubbles float out of the carto. You can see at the top of your carto filler that it will always stay white. I use my on a phiniac tank, DC smoketech tank, and now the new SS AGR Carto Tank with the screw at the top for easy filling (no need for a carto too filler. It works great this way every time.
