What causes the burning when you get e-liquid in your mouth and what doesn't leak?

Hi all again.

I'm now been 3 weeks since I quit and started vaping. I really happy with most things but one thing that bothers me is when I get e-liquid on my lips or in my mouth. Why does it burn? It reminds me of when you siphon gasoline and get some in your mouth. It's no where near as bad as that but it does raise a concern with me. Surely a liquid that causes a burning sensation cant be all good so what is it that does the burning? The PG, the VG or the nicotine? I have on order 100% VG juice just because the word propylene sounds a lot worse than vegetable. I feeling lazy so instead of searching and finding out myself, I thought I post this thread. :nun:

Another thing that has been an issue for me is leakage. Hence it getting on my lips or mouth. I use an Ego type battery with CE5 clearomizers and was looking at getting a Vivi Nova Mini tank. Will getting that tank cure the leaks?

Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot to ask this...

I have another concern that I forgot to ask about in the OP. The noise these things make! Is there a quieter system than what I'm using? I haven't yet run into this situation but sometimes I go visit relatives and watch a basketball game or something while we sit on the couch. I plan on vaping when I do this and the noise when you inhale will surely get on anyones nerves. I'm talking about the crackling the coils make when you first hit the button and the whistling and rush of air as it goes through the e-cig.

I vape 100% vg and if it gets on my lips it still burns slightly. So that won't change, most tanks will leak when liquid falls below a certain level, or if you suck too hard and flood the coils, with my tank i hit the button right before i bring it to my mouth so it starts vaping before i draw this has kept the flooding down to minimum. Keep a cotton pipe cleaner handy and swab out the airway tube lightly if its got some in it. Pay close attention to when you get the most leaks and keep tanks topped off above that level, and mind your draw technique. Also I keep a bandana in my pocket and wipe my drip tip and lips off if i get it on them, good for wiping off the outside of your vape pen and keeping the liquids off your hands.

I have no idea what really causes the burning sensation. I always just assumed it is the nicotine because it is the same kind of burning/tingling sensation I felt on my skin when I tried the patch.

I have a Vivi Nova Mini tank and it leaks, horribly. IMHO the kanger mini protank 3s are a much better bet. They are only around $10 bucks or so, and I have never had them leak. Also they are glass, which is nice. :)

*edit* Forgot to mention, I use an EGO style as well and the kanger mini looks sleak on it.

Thanks watching a YouTube vid on the kanger mini protank now. Looks nice and small just like I want.

Added the strikethrough section to OP. Disregard if you've read it already.

Hi!

Only one quick comment. Vivi Nova tanks are old tech now. I had multiple ones and they have long since been given away/sold/thrown away.

It was never THAT good, I promise you.

I stopped using top coils once bottom coils became reliable enough to tolerate (which wasn't for the first few designs).

Even the latest BCCs are not totally leak proof, but some of them are darn close.

You might want to try a bottom coil (BDC) atomizer to stop some of the noise, the heat, and the spitting when you vape. Top coils like the Vivi Nova and the CE5 types tend to reach your lips when they pop. Bottom coils have much farther to go.

Kanger Protanks are popular, but the Cadillac right now is the Aspire Nautilus, IMO. You might also try the Kanger Evod. Opinions will vary, of course.

+1 on NOT purchasing the Vivi Nova tank. All 4 of mine leaked like sieves. I despise them.

A simple Bottom Coil Clearomizer (BCC) is EVOD. Easy to use and clean, and to later rebuild. If you have "Tank cracking" juice such as cinnamon or citrus, you can purchase the glass EVODs. I recommend them to all of my beginner friends.

The nicotine causes the burning. A liquid that causes burning can't be all good. Kind of provides some motivation to cut down on the nicotine strength, doesn't it.

When you order "100% VG" liquid, they just use 5 to 20% water instead of PG. VG all by itself is very thick and causes problems to wick in a tank, especially a topcoil.

If you like topcoils, the smoktech pyrex vivi nova is the only glass topcoil I know of; Best to get a glass tank. Bottom coil tanks are more popular nowadays. I recommend the miniprotank2v2.

Bottom coil tanks make less noise, because the coil is down below the liquid, further away from the mouthpiece.

Much of the leaking out of the drip tip is condensation. I don't think it's 100% avoidable. Pipe cleaners or Qtips are an easy way to clear it before it ends in your mouth or makes your clearo gurgle. Flick your PV with your wrist a few times to get the liquid to the end and then swab out whatever liquid is there.

A brand new carto each day is pretty much the best and most trouble free vehicle for a good vape. Toss it and open a new one every morning. The down side is that even with mega cartos you have to top them off every 30 minutes or so to prevent dry vapes.

Tanks give you longer vape time between refills and some rival or exceed the flavor of a good carto. A good tank won't leak, but you still have to replace coils at some interval depending on the design. There's also the condensation build up that causes gurgling even if the tank design is resistant to juice flooding.

We are all in search of the perfect, trouble free vape that you just fill and forget.

I will never understand why clearomizer users put up with the leaking, inconsistency, etc when there is an option that is much less hassle, better consistency, better flavor and no more expensive.
It isn't a hassle once you have technique sorted. If it tastes burnt I reduce the power, prime, reduce airflow or draw more strongly. If it gurgles I do the opposite. I fill the tank cleanly and quickly once a day with less than one drop of eliquid to mop up.

I don't get liquid in my mouth with my ProTanks, but I'd still join the couple people who recommended a carto-tank.
I find them longer lasting, more reliable (though you will get the occasional dud), better flavor, and pretty easy. Just don't get a CHEAP tank. The least expensive good tank is probably IBTanked - and you can get started for like $30. Then it's about $1/carto...
And I don't change them every day - I change when they're starting to draw "tight" - like it's clogged. And that's almost always far longer than 1 day...

Humm, I guess you and I have a different definition of "hassle". I prime a new tank carto by dripping 20 drops in the carto. I put the carto in the tank. I then vape for 8 - 14 days with no leaks, no gurgle, no burnt taste, no airflow issues. Just consistent, good flavor vaping. We are the same in that I must fill the tank every 24 hours. Other than that, I see a significant difference in the "hassle" factor.

Thanks all. Just ordered a Kanger Mini ProTank 3 Dual Coil Clearomizer for $8.99 on eBay with free shipping. I might order some EVODs but I prefer a completely see thru tank so I can watch my e-juice.

Just an update: The last 2 days it has gotten really bad with the juice. Like today when I woke up I started vaping my favorite flavor juice which is Vanilla. I got it from AquaVapor. No clue what the VG/PG ratio is since it's not listed on their site. I sent them a message asking about it a couple hours ago. Anyways, after about 10 minutes I could no longer vape it. I had to rinse out my mouth and lips real good. I then switched to another clean CE5 clearomizer with Ultamint from MadVapes (80% VG / 20% PG) and it was alright except I don't really like the taste. I've now gone back to the AquaVapor vanilla filled clearomizer and it seems OK for now. What I'm confused about is why I had no issues for almost 3 weeks and now all of a sudden it's gotten so bad. I've tried absolutely clean tanks with new heads and everything.
