What determines throat hit

I got my volcano and red dragon in the mail today and finally got a chance to try them both out. I'm getting pretty harsh drags, more so from the volcano. I would say it's more harsh then a regular cig I'm used to smoking. I got the high level of nicotine on all my carts and I probably should have tried some lower levels but I'll have to wait until my juice comes in.

Can a high nic level cause more intense throat hit? Could it be something else making my vaping so harsh? So far I'm not sure how I feel about vaping.

From what I've seen it takes about 48 hours to get the technique down. Thats the way it was for me, its just sorta different. Also, if you don't blow the atomizers out first there's a nasty harshness for a while. ANd the smoke, you can take a way bigger cloud if you bounce it off your tongue a bit before inhaling... Just a diff technique. I actually sold my ex wife a 510 and she's a recent convert too, but it took her about 48 hrs to get it down too. She's loving it now though. But the primer fluid in the atomizers... Try and blow it out into a paper towel or something. Its kinda gross and takes a while to burn off.

Which way to you blow out the attys? Can this be done to the cartomizers as well?

I cant offer any advice on the cartomizers, I use a 510 like everyone else lol, are they both cartomizer type? The volcano looks like it has an atomizer seperate.. You'd blow from the side where it screws into the battery, the threaded part, so the fluid blows out on the coil side. But if its a cartomizer, I'd wait for someone else to respond

Ya I've already been looking around for better units. Everyone here seems to just love the 510 so I might give it a shot. Wish I would've found this site before ordering 2 mediocre kits. o well, maybe I can return one.

Ryd1ZZ, I am feeling the same way, I bought the GreenSmoke cig and so far even adding someone elses liquid has not been very pleasant with it.

I tried blowing out the volcano and it did seem a little better but the harshness is still there.

I really want to like this because it seems better for you and all the flavors seem really fun to try but so far all my flavored carts taste pretty bad or like nothing but harshness.

I'm not giving up though, I will keep messing with them both and using them, even though my body is deff. not used to taking in this much nicotine. Really wish I got some low or 0nic carts.

Ryd1ZZ... I have many models and many juices and though the hit defiantly varies between models, the single biggest factor I have found for throat hit is nic level.

If you got the 'high' carts this can mean anything from 15 to 24mg and theres a big difference across this range. If your 'highs' are 24, they are going to hit pretty hard for a new user. If you want to lighten it a bit, pick up some PG or VG (you can probably get locally pretty cheap) and just put a drop on top your cart filler. You should imeadiately see the difference in high nic and low (to 0) nic hit. The PG/VG will not change your hit on the first few drags, until it works into your atty, but you will see how the hit varies with nic level.
BTW: in general...PG based juices hit harder, VG makes more 'smoke'

Well I've been playing with all 4 ecigs for a few hours and I think the nasty taste/harshness is the attys on my volcanoes. I blew them out as best as I could but it still tastes gross as hell. I'm just puffing on them trying to see if it makes a difference after time. The red dragons seemed to get better much faster and are now nice and smooth. None of my carts have much flavor, in fact they all taste the same to me. So I'm hoping the juice I ordered from Juicyliquids has a much better and distinctive taste.

If this nasty taste doesn't go away on the volcano attys should I try one of the cleaning methods I've read about? Maybe that can get rid of withever the hell is on/in these things, blegghhhh!

If you want that Smoke-inhale feel, try 33.3333+% PGA (Pure Grain Alcohol, or Everclear). I don't need as much nicotine, because of the hit.

I had same issue I bought 36 mg with my starter kit, COULDN'T EVEN HIT IT! Teeny tiny inhales. I went searching for VG and found Wiltons Glycerine at at Hobby Lobby for 2.18.

A couple drops in my 24 mg PG liquids to tone them down just a little bit and boost vapor, and a couple more drops in that 36 mg (I put the drops in a 3 ml bottle and then fill it up with my juice to have an easy carrying bottle).

Totally solved my issue.Could just be me, but it's always worth a try if you think it might help!

I'm really new, but I've read in a lot of posts that people are cutting the harshness with VG, like enadrown suggests. They all seem to really like it.
