So I started on a ego twist using the cheesy disposable cartomizers, then stepped up to an MVP w/adjustable volts and watts with a pro tank, then to an MVP 3.0 Pro with same protanks, then began the sub ohm tanks. Now on to a couple rda's, and learning to build coils and beginning to mix juice. I made the mistake of hitting a friends unregulated mech mod recently, and now have an itch to have one of those too!!!! What has your journey been?

Ah, my journey began 2+ years ago, similar to yours.

Started on a Blu "Starter Pack" -- that never did jack in terms of helping me quit, smoked cigarettes the whole way through owning that hunk of garbage. Ditched it for about a year before being introduced to..

A junk eGo fixed voltage battery and a gurgly, burny, leaky plastic CE4 clearomizer. Still smoked cigarettes during this phase, but started to cut back. Got enthusiastic when I finally moved to..

A MVP2 + a couple of ProTanks that I'd switch between. I was still smoking cigarettes, but way less, down from 2 packs a day to about 1 pack every 2 days. Was able to really start enjoying flavors and vaping in general, started researching gear and other alternatives. The final blow to my cigarette addiction was...

An Igo-L RDA and a SMOK Magneto (mech) mod. Once I switched to dripping it was pretty easy to get off the cigarettes. I was able to get a really solid lungful of vapor, it felt good and it tasted amazing. Really started to immerse myself into the hobbyist aspect of vaping, building coils, custom box mods, the many chips and PCB's that control our regulated devices, etc... It was only logical that I eventually switched to..

A regulated high-wattage box (OKL-T20 chip) and a nice open-airflow RDA (the Doge). Nowadays I'm vaping at .55 ohms pretty much all the time (for the last year at least) at around 6V. This is sort of my "final form" or "end-game" -- for me, it doesn't get much better than this. I'm not into chucking clouds specifically, but this setup gives me a really nice amount of vapor, the flavor's on-point, maintenance is easy as heck (dual battery box mod for the win), and it just feels normal and nice to me.

I'll admit, along the way I've slipped a few times (most of us would be lying if we said we managed to quit and never looked back, not even that one weekend that you got sloshed at your buddy's house and you left your mod in your other pants or whatever) but I've made serious strides towards bettering my health, I think. I've even cut out most flavorings due to the questionable nature of their ingredients. I vape mostly unflavored VG w/ nicotine now (2 years ago I didn't care what was in my juice, primarily because we weren't aware of the potential nasties in there), and I occasionally spruce up an unflavored batch with some pre-mixed flavored juice (I like MtBakerVapor) or use my own flavorings. Saves money and gives me greater peace of mind.

Anyway, I hope that wasn't too rambly. Welcome to the ECF.

My journey started almost exactly one year ago (August 2014). I started off with an ego 650 mah ce4 kit. Quickly after that i ordered a few more ego batterys off ebay, so I could vape all day. A couple months later I got a vision spinner 2, which ended up being a clone, but performed well for about 6 months. And up until august of this year I was just using old ego's, and some evod clones I had. They were working pretty good for me, but I wanted to "step it up". I started with the Apire et-s, a HUGE improvement coming from an evod. From there I was off to the races.

Just in the last 2 weeks Ive bought a 50 w istick, a subtank mini, an atlantis 2, and a clone atlantis 1. Im using WAY more juice then I use to, but the flavor and the clouds are worth it. I don't know what i'll buy next, but I'm sure it wont take me long to find something haha

I believe I will eventually end up in a high watt regulated box myself because so much versatility there. I can see the end of the road for my MVP 3.0 pro as I go down in resistance and will want higher wattage, but the good thing is that my wife is right behind me on her own older mvp that she can maybe give to a friend with a couple pro tanks to help them quit too...

Yeah I'm a big fan of the "freecycling" thing, a lot of my unused older equipment (my mech mods and stuff) have gone to other friends who were getting into vaping. My Orchid RTA, a couple of my old eGo batteries, a ProTank, AeroTank.. I've actually passed down a fair bit of my old stuff to friends.

Over three and a half years of vaping...

  • Began vaping with a disposable N-Joy cigalike, then a SmokelessImage Volt cigalike starter kit.
  • Soon upgraded to a Silver Bullet and BB mechanical mods, along with cartotanks and clearomizers.
  • Upgraded to a Provari, still using cartotanks. Mechanicals were saved as backups. Purchased several other mods, but always used the Provari as the primary battery device. A card carrying tootle puffer.
  • Began dabbling in rebuildables (Genesis-style tanks) about two years ago, didn't care for them so continued to use cartotanks.
  • Was gifted a Kayfun-style rebuildable tank around the time I began working for a vape shop. Became disenchanted with the quality of factory-made coils, so I also purchased a rebuildable drip atomizer. Really liked the Rebuildables, so the cartotanks went into the "has-been" drawer. Began experimenting with higher sub-ohm coil builds.
  • Currently using a Silver Bullet with a RDA (0.6 ohm dual coil), and a Provari P3 with a Kayfun Lite Plus RTA (1.5 ohm).

  • eGo 1100/900 mAh batteries and Vivi Nova's
  • eGo twists and Vivi Nova, as well as other dual/quad top wick clearo's
That was about 6 months in, then...
  • Innokin SVD's, couple of these, wore out the buttons pretty quick. Same tanks.
  • Joytech eVic, couple of these as well (not cheap at $99 a pop back then). Separated the control head from the body on both within a short amount of time.
  • Innokin SVD, yea, again, wasn't going to pay another $99...lol.
Now I was getting into rebuilding, still used clearo's, bottom fed now though, and a couple Kayfuns

I think that basically got me through until November of last year when I pre-rodered the VS rDNA40. Since November....

Atty's, I was rebuilding exclusively at this point...
  • Kayfun, used for some time, but gave way to the next on the list
  • Lemo x2 and Lemo Drop, good tanks, but gave way to the next on the list
  • Subtank Mini x3, current
  • Velocity RDA, current
  • Others purchased, used sparingly and set aside, Mini Buddah, Sub Tank Nano, Magma RDA, Holmes RDA, Hobo v3 RDA, Mutation X RDA and a few others I am forgetting.
Devices...
  • rDNA40 x2, use one daily, set the other aside as a backup to my daily one.
  • DNA30, didn't use it much, gave it to my son
  • Sigelei 150, thought I would really like this, but I'm just not a cloud chaser. Sold it with barely any use.
  • KBox Mini, bought the kit, really just wanted the tank. Good little mod, albeit very basic. Used it a little to give my rDNA40's a break, then gave it to my other son.
  • eVic VTC Mini, use this one daily
So now my daily setups are a rDNA40 with a STm and the VTC Mini with a STm

Oh boy. I'll have to write another blog one day to answer that. Suffice it to say... It's been fantastic.

Well, I now have a Mutant 26650 mod and several more rda's than when I originally posted...lol Since starting to subohm a couple months ago, I started seeing my juice costs rise. So went ahead and ordered a nice little DIY starter package (around $70) after pouring over the DIY Juice threads here and elsewhere. Am having some decent success, and hope those of you following the same path the same!
