What I do not quite understand about VV/VW mods...

Ok, so I guess it would just be easier to give an example.

VV/VW mod
accepts .2-3.5 ohms
3-9.3 volts
50w

We'll say I'm running a .2 ohm coil.

If I select 9 volts, that means I'm pushing 405w at the coil according to ohms law.

so how is it that I can surpass the watt limitation using the volt setting? Or would the mod just fire lower at 3.16v to make it 50w even though its set on 9v?

when a mod is 50w, or 9.3 volts, that is the MAX, meaning you will max out at 50 w BEFORE you hit 9.3 volts. The specs show the best possible range, not a guaranteed range

yup thats how it will go.... it will auto adjust the voltage down to achieve the max watt settings

A lot of the newer regulated mods are VW mods and do not let you set the voltage, they calculate it with Ohm's law and a reading of your atty.

Even if it is a vv/vw mod and allows you to set the voltage it also checks the atty, sees that at 9 volts and .2 ohms you are over the watts so it does something, Not fire, or change voltage. I prefer not fire since I told it what I want and if it can't do it I would rather not have it make up something.

If you put a atty with a higher resistance you will be able to use the 9.3 volts and still be under 50 watts.

the same problem exists on the bottom If you stick a .2 Ohm atty on and say you want the minimum wattage of 7 a DNA board will fire anyway and give you substantially more than 7 watts.

Max amp out but is the limiting factor, generally that's been ~14-16 amps, though have seen one that will do 43 amps, but only max volts of 5. It's all a juggling act, and unless familiar with all the specs as applied to ohms law, one may be discouraged when getting a high amp regulated. Most are more suited to sub ohm builds to get the max watt/amp outputs. or something like that:D
